I’m sure someone will point out potash needs to tariff free and it will be dropped, as will other inelastic imports.
The Canadians should put export quotas on potash - a bit of cutting off your own nose, but add a bit of disruption.
Hopefully Canada will be very selective in tariffs.

The most compelling argument that I’ve heard, that Trump is not a Russian asset, is that he’s too stupid to be a reliable actor for them.
There might be something to that line of thinking, but either way the results are the same.

If all the countries that trump has put offside got together and formed a package with china, which probably include undertakings, I’m sure China, under international treaties would love to help Ukraine in a peace keeping move and rattle USA. This would give the EU time to get on their feet with an alliance including Ukraine, and China access to new markets. The EU could become the super power. Could it work?
Russian fertilisers have been exempt from US sanctions. Russia is a significant exporter of potash.

Vance was his usual charming self in his comments on UK and France willingness to send peacekeeping forces to Ukraine. He said that they could command around 20k troops who hadn’t fought in a War in 20 years.
IIRC French and UK were part of the NATO force in Afghanistan. Additionally, French troops have been involved in conflicts in New Caledonia and in former French colonies in Africa until recently.
JD also fails to understand the nature of peacekeeping Missions ( in which France and UK troops have participated under UNSC authorised Blue Helmet Missions).
As to the US position on NATO, it could take a leaf from de Gaulle in 1966 , when French troops were withdrawn from NATO command and US military were ordered to leave France. LBJ accepted graciously ( if coldly polite) moved troops north and NATO HQ moved from Yvelines to Bxl.
France remained a political member of NATO and NATO military command adjusted. France subsequently became part of the Atlantic Alliance, with full military re-integration in NATO under the Presidency of Carla Bruni’s squeeze .
