I’m not one of those but has the American economy tanked already?
I understood it was to do with Hamas support/ anti semitic protests.
The first part was enacted last month with deportation of foreign students who supported Hamas and harassed Jewish students. This second part is potential defunding of universities if they allow pro Hamas / anti semitic protests on campus.
Maybe
I’m not sure there’s means testing on social security payments in the USA - you just draw bigger payments out of the system if you have worked longer in it(the US economy)
Causes a bunch of problems for Americans working abroad I think.
I think impacts to their social security system would be very broad. It’s not really Trump “hittin the poor”.
But if he borks a payment or two to millions of his supporters - well MAGA is going to get unpopular really quick you would think.
It’s also the exact system you don’t want with an ageing population.
The payments people making into it today fund the payments going out today. So Musk is right in one respect - feels awful like a Ponzi scheme waiting to collapse once the balance gets out of whack.
It absolutely is, along with all the other effects. But no amount of “see, he’s doing what he said he would” will convince these farkwits to see because they asked for it and asked to have their eyes burned out, cos transgenderz and ownin libs
Would you invest your superannuation in their economy right now?
No idea. That’s why I’m asking. There is so much bluster it’s hard to tell what is true and what isn’t.
Early reports said he was going to be great for the economy. Jonovdp is saying it’s not.
So what’s the answer? Is the economy actually tanking already?
Id be looking for buying opportunities but not buying right now.
America is awash with soooo much capital. It’s the place to invest.
Unlike Australia the US economy is not the government.
What do you think these Tarrifs will do? They will mean businesses will open up manufacturing in the US too avoid them.
Because the American consumer is king.
Along with all sorts of currency shenanigans I’m sure by countries like China.
red is good, right?
There is a heap of oil off the coast of Gaza.
It will be under the guise of that, but in reality it will stretch (in the near future) to anyone criticising the Trump regime.
And to add , any legal ones as well.
Eg
Right to associate , gatherings of more than 3 people at any one time , birthday parties ,political meetings/rallies , having a beer at a pub that i don’t own and watching essendon play.
The donald.
But but but…… before the election, Trump said he’d fix the economy.
So it must be fixed, right?
He’s been in less than 2 months. Have any metrics come out? Inflation? Employment?
Or it’s just the vibe we all get?
I heard on the radio the US market has lost all its gains since Trump came to office.
The only metrics so far is that the GDP is tanking, and so is the Dow.
Markets go up and down all the time.
Not sure what company would line up to develop a rare earth mine and processing facility in Eastern Ukraine?
The sovereign risk, as well as the practical limitations of no infrastructure (bombed), no transport, no worker housing, a few land mines and a whole lot of other stuff to deal with means what company with lots of cash would actually invest?
Or, is the US government going to directly invest so it can “recoup” its costs?
I call BS to this deal. I reckon there is more to it. No way these mines will ever get developed. No way will the US government recoup its costs through this deal. There might ? be $500B of raw minerals, the NET after extraction may ? be 20% of this…just ponder this…
Unless, of course, their Eastern neighbour develops them?
Maybe Trump is going to on sell them in some dodgy deal?
The next CPI release is on the 12 March. So we’ll have official figures then …… but all indications are that it’s a sh*t show.
One of the things I hate about the Trump era is the reporting of it all. As well as Trump obviously.
There is just so much ■■■■ reported, from both sides. He just creates so many headlines.
So I’m interested in facts. So I’ll look forward to seeing what the metrics say.
