US politics - the new orange wave (Part 7)

If Elon really wants to cut costs and deliver benefits to the population in the health sector, he could look at Big Pharma. The pre-competitive research funded by government involves massive government expenditure. After that the protection afforded by the length of patents screws the consumer.
The FDA and CDC aren’t the swamp, Big Pharma are the cesspit.
There are others, such as the private sector defence sector.
Then, there is the protection afforded to agri-business through the Farm Bill and domestic food aid. How much goes to the farmer and rural communities compared to big agri- business based in Wall Street?

Problem is with RFK pick is many think its good cause they see 1-2 areas he has communicated that are very reasonable and the US do have some crazy allowances on what food/ingredients citizens put in their mouths.

But sadly thats not where his thoughts end.

So if government gets out of this, we can 1) have less upfront public expense 2) less Big Government insisting ■■■■ be safe, and 3) because government didn’t subsidise the testing we compensate poor struggling Big Pharma by giving them longer and broader patents?

Shutting the gate after the horse has bolted in the opioids crisis
And the US government negotiating the global rules in WIPO and the WTO to further the interests of Big Pharma. The Covid pandemic exposed how those rules denied access to life saving drugs in other countries as well as in the USA.

In the land of capitalism, build on US anti-trust laws to crack the pharmaceutical cartels, as has been done in other sectors based on the capitalist system of constraining abuse of a dominant position in the market

NIH does research that pharmaceutical companies wouldn’t do because there isn’t money to be made. They are doing research into my chronic illness which I suspect is the type of program that gets cut because it’s relatively rare and there’s no profit in treatment.

TBF to the USA the FDA approach to orphan drugs for rare illnesses has been positive and has been followed in other countries, including Australia.

So just to recap. We have -

  • A Russian asset in charge of State Intelligence.
  • A pedo in charge of the DOJ.
  • A warmonger in charge of the military.
  • A drug-addicted man-child with no experience in government in charge of services.
  • And an anti-vaxxer conspiracy nut in charge of health.

Is that right? Anything I’ve missed?

This is spot on it.
This is what Americans wanted and voted for.
It’s akin to the ‘burn it all down and start again’ rhetoric around Essendon when things don’t work the way we wanted.
Americans have been in that mindset for more than 40 years.

They are going to have freedoms of choice. It’ll have a Scomo ‘we’ll let the marketplace decide’ rubbish whilst at the same time not allowing a fair marketplace to occur due to tax breaks, subsidies, etc.

I suspect they will have the choice for a particular vaccine or another one they prefer.
Same deal with foods.
Same deal with everything.
If the individual wants to inject themselves with Ivermectin, it’s their choice. If other’s want another vaccine that has more testing relating to it, they will have access to it. They’ll probably have to pay more for it though.

This is their choice. Their freedoms. They live with the consequences of it.
