US politics - the new orange wave (Part 7)

So we have an anti Vax, conspiracy theorist in charge of health .

A suspected paedophile / sex trafficker / obstructor of justice will be attorney general.

A National guard colonel / fox news presenter is somehow Sec Def.

A Russian propaganda spreader is now Director of Intelligence.

There’s no way any of this can be true. The script writers of this movie are drunk.

Wasn’t actually as absurd as made out, the ethics rather than the value is what was problematic. It shows a link between steroid use and aggression, which is important to understand for implications on human usage.

This is the exact type of crap that will be publicised to cover for cuts to things that are really important. This was a relatively small research grant for 2016 that is being misrepresented to support broader cuts.

Another is the push to defund every program that has expired congressional approval, amounting to $500B per year. Sounds good. Fine print is that this defunds health care to veterans at $120B per year and expired in 1998.

JFK jr will do some crazy stuff but also will do some good things like limiting junk food at schools and reducing processed food. He will probably implement more regimented activities/fitness at schools. US has lots of obese people so something has to change. Let’s hope it’s less crazy stuff and more practical measures to improve health and wellbeing.

Almost none of this stuff is absurd, if you’re willing to actually look into what it’s about in good faith.

Canning research into obscure jungle snails, or the venom chemistry of New Mexico lizards? Well, guess you didn’t need Ozempic, or the most promising Alzheimers drug in decades.

Or funding research of mold spores in cantaloupes…

Goodbye penicillin.

They want to disband the department of education. How exactly is he going to have policies that impact schools, without the department that would oversee it?

No junk food in schools if there are no schools.

Easy fix.

They’re pushing education overdone and responsibilities to the states (decentralised). I assume the feds can still pass laws that have to be adhered to within schools? Or they will pass laws limiting food suppliers selling junk food to schools. I would have thought there are several ways to achieve this aim. It’s part of the Trump/JFKjr platform (reduce junk food and chemicals in food for school age children) so they’ll have a plan to implement this.

The Onion, who have just bought Infowars, are behind this.

Yes they are pushing ownership to the states so it would be entirely hypocritical to then have a federal policy over lunches of all things. That’s a left policy and no way does RFK get them to go along with it. Fox and the right wing warriors would push against it hard.

He can start with a ban on sugar, alcohol and cigarettes.

As to junk food, if the President thrives on it, what message is that sending? Trump promotes the opposite of a healthy lifestyle. His chosen sport is reserved for the rich and involves little exercise.

I’m not a Gaetz fan having read more about him (should not be AG and is a shrieking foolish antagonist) but geese people getting hung up on him being an accused sex trafficker. Biden was an accused rapist as was Bill Shorten. Biden became President and Shorten should have been PM. Then there was that bloke who preyed on interns and he was President.

I clearly don’t think Gaetz should be AG but not because he was accused of serious offences. He was investigated and never charged. If being accused of sex/serious crimes discounts you from running for higher office, then Biden shouldn’t have been President and Shorten shouldn’t have run for PM.

And the current President-Elect has been ruled a rapist by a civil court.

Look I don’t know how he will implement it. But it’s a big part of his platform

Wait… did Musk ask for the department to have the DOGE acronym, so he can use it to artificially pump Dogecoin again?

Someone is really hammering the gymnastics today. The tribalism is strong with him.

Do you think it’s an issue that a guy with no medical or public health qualifications is going to hold the position that he is?

You’re cherry picking points to suit your argument (as usual).

If Gaetz has nothing to worry about, why did he resign from his House position “with immediate effect” just as the House Ethics Committee report on him was due to be released.

There have been multiple people come forward and accuse him pf paying minors to have sex.

The beautiful thing (hopefully) is that as a the nominee for AG, Gaetz now has to face Senate scrutiny and there is a lot of talk that the Ethics Committee will release their report…if so, stand by for Gaetz to get a hostile reception…as long as some Republican Senators maintain a scrap of self dignity.
