US politics - the new orange wave (Part 7)

Lmfao. So his tariff promises are already being twisted and watered down. It was going to be 60 percent on China , Ra Ra USA manufacturing blah blah , now itā€™s ten percent and itā€™s tied to some bizarre clause that it will only happen if they donā€™t stop smuggling fentanyl to the US. WTF? Heā€™s already backing down to the inevitable whilst still trying to look tough for his idiot fans.

Probably good news for the worldā€™s economies, though.

As yet, I havenā€™t seen a document ( which could be in four languages - English, French, Hebrew and Arabic). France has been reportedly been involved in brokering the deal.
The devil could be in the detail and selectively interpreted. Blinken was short on detail in his presser at the G7 meeting in Italy. ADD He somehow connected it to Hamas.
An agreement between Lebanon and Israel. Reportedly not with Hezbollah which was excluded from the negotiations. ( maybe indirectly, if Hezbollah forms part of the Lebanon Government)
Also some confusion in terminology, Lebanon does not call it a ceasefire as such, but a cessation of hostilities.
As I understand it , ā€˜ceasefireā€™ generally involves a time period. A 60 day period had been earlier rumoured. A truce would be of indefinite duration.
It would appear to come within the wording of UNSC Resolution 1701, no firing across the UNIFIL blue line, the Lebanese army would be the enforcer of Hezbollah armed units?

Itā€™s tough work draining the swamp when your own team is primarily engaged in mafia style knifing of each other and extortion. FYI Boris hand picks Trumpā€™s lawyers who have been promised top jobs in the justice dept. Only the best. Even Musky and Tucksy are a bit weirded out by how tight he is with their sweet smelling guy.

ā€œInternal rivalries spilled into public view on Monday as Boris Epshteyn, a top adviser to Donald Trump, found himself at the center of an ouster effort over accusations he asked potential administration nominees to pay monthly consulting fees in exchange for lobbying for them to the president-elect.

The maelstrom engulfing Epshteyn suggested that barely 20 days since Trump won the election, the knife-fight culture of the first Trump presidency, in which bitter aides took any opportunity to remove rivals, had returned.

Over the weekend, David Warrington, the Trump 2024 campaignā€™s general counsel, finalized the main conclusions of a review into Epshteyn that found he had unsuccessfully solicited tens of thousands of dollars from potential nominees including Scott Bessent, who has been tapped to be treasury secretary.

According to the review, one day after Trump met with Bessent for the first time in February, Epshteyn invited him to lunch at a hotel in Palm Beach, where he asked for a monthly retainer of at least $30,000 to promote his name at Mar-a-Lago in case Trump won the election.

And this is what we can expect from the guy who weaponised Twitter, blatant lies and a clear sense that nothing he says or does will ever affect him and his. The world is a plaything and chaos is fun.

Pentagon rebuts Muskā€™s claim of meeting with ā€˜senior military officersā€™ - report

A day after Elon Musk claimed to have met with ā€œsenior military officers,ā€ the Pentagon told reporters it was not aware of any meetings with Trump transition officials, the Washington Post reports.

ā€œThe president-electā€™s transition team has not contacted the department yet to conduct those transitions, so Iā€™m not aware of any official meetings,ā€ Pentagon press secretary Patrick Ryder told reporters. Donald Trumpā€™s transition team has declined to sign paperwork that would require the incoming administration to agree to an ethics pledge and cap private donations, which has slowed the transition.

Yesterday, Musk claimed to have met with ā€œsenior military officers todayā€ in a social media post responding to a statement from Vivek Ramaswamy about government efficiency.

ā€œIn a meeting with senior military officers today, they told me that it now takes longer to renovate stairs (24 months) in the Pentagon than it took to build the WHOLE Pentagon (16 months) in the 1940s!!ā€ Musk wrote.

Macron and Biden have issued a joint statement, titled a ā€˜cessation of hostilities between Lebanon and Israelā€™.
The carefully worded statement refers to the cessation creating the conditions to restore lasting calm, to allow for residents on both sides of the blue line to return home.
It also refers to a commitment to lead and support international efforts for capacity building of the Lebanese Army and for furthering economic development throughout Lebanon.
Watch this space, including which countries would finance the damaged infrastructure, equipping the Lebanese Army.
The UNSG has welcomed it as providing a potential pathway to compliance with the provisions of the relevant .UNSC Resolution

How can it be a surprise when he campaigned on imposing higher tariffs.

But weā€™re different. Weā€™re U.S friends and Allies. He wouldnā€™t apply those promises to us.

Itā€™s remarkable what an import tariff can achieve. It will be a kryptonite barrier to turn back fentanyl at US borders.
IDK whether it will impact on US consumers buying legit pharmaceuticals at a cheaper retail price in Canada than in USA.

If you listen to Charlie Kirk (I know, I know, who would) it will cause everyone to shift their manufacturing to homeland U.S. Magic!

ā€œ White House chief of staff Susie Wiles also said that the Trump team had its own ethics plan, rather than the formal government one, leaving unclear whether all relevant transition aides would be eligible to receive full government briefings that included classified information.

That caveat on the ethics plan dovetailed with reporting by the Guardian that the Trump team is planning for political appointees to receive temporary security clearances on the first day and only face FBI background checks after it had taken over the bureau.

Trumpā€™s lack of interest in engaging with the formal transition stems from the first Trump administration, when officials turned over transition team records to the Russia investigation, according to people familiar with the matter.

Trump has previously broken convention with the transfer of power. In 2016, his campaign organized what appeared to be a standard process, until Trump fired his transition teamā€™s leadership after he won the election and cut off communications with the Obama administration.
