Does Murdoch still control FOX News?
Trump is telling Murdoch publicly, that FOX is not doing enough to get Trump elected.
Fark. If I were Murdoch , on my last legs anyway at the age of 89, I would stick Trumps expectations of entitlement right up his ■■■■ and just change the editorial policy to oppose Trump.
What ever needs to be done. Fire the conservative commentators, whatever is necessary.

Its been a pattern through Rupert’s career. At a point he will turn on those he supported and do a 180 degree shift. The time is right to do that again now.

Rupert will never turn on the hard right.
And his son who runs all that stuff now, is somewhere to the right of Rupert.

Rupert has done it before. Never say never.

Maybe not, if measured at the level of individual liberties.
Compared to here for instance - freedom of speech, right to bear arms, non-compulsory voting, an elected Head of State

Agree. They have the right to insult and abuse. The right to kill. All sorts of largely irrelevant or harmful rights, but bugger all that really matter. Add that to living in a virtual police state and they have not much beyond the jingoistic chanting and flag waving you see in Iran or China. Their freedom is a myth

Murdoch supported Whitlam and very actively. But Whitlam was his own man, and Murdoch opposed him fairly soon after the election, when it was apparent that Goughs government was a bit of a rabble. ( and would not listen to Murdochs ideas either. )

"…this passage from a 1995 article by then UTS lecturer Stephen Stockwell reveals the extent of pro-Whitlam campaigning:

Murdoch then took a close interest in the Labor campaign. In Sydney he ‘sat in as virtual editorial director of his group of papers. He coordinated policy, dictated news stories, gave advice to the Whitlam camp and generally worked a twelve-hour day making sure that advice was used to the best advantage in his own editorials.’ (Regan 1976:97). He also contributed $75,000 worth of advertising space to Labor (Munster 1985: 100) and the relationship was so close that he met with Whitlam after his final campaign rally (Shawcross 1992:162). After the 1972 election Murdoch was quoted as claiming that he had ‘single-handedly put the present government into office’ (Shawcross 1992: 162).

Murdoch has a solid habit of sensing which way the wind is blowing and backing that side so they then owe him favours.

When said expected favours aren’t as forthcoming as expected, he turns all Guns around on them.

Did the same thing to Rudd after he announced the NBN, (see, … Rudd had promised he wouldn’t reverse Howards Media ownership Laws and cut Rupes newly gained super power to influence the nuffies, and he didn’t, … but then pulled this Rabbit out of the hat, and Murfuch was furious) … he turned on him so fast it made my head swim.

The McMahon government was so inept that Labor just needed to present a reasonable alternative. Although my perception was that McMahon was so determined to become PM that it dominated all his thinking. My recollection was that Gorton would have remained a far better PM than Billy Big-Ears. I didn’t get to vote in that election, but did the next time - the day of the Windy Hill brawl.

I agree with @Bacchusfox on this one. Gough did some great things, and brought the country out of the fifties, but there were some guys in the cabinet who couldn’t wait to get into the cookie jar (not for personal gain, but just grandiose ideas).

You can’t make this stuff up
Are these Trump twitter threats more impeachable offences?

During the impeachment trial in January, a Prof makes up a cartoonishly evil hypothetical, which Trump now threatens to enact!

Also Blair in the UK if I remember correctly

They probably wouldn’t believe you and would compare themselves to countries in the world like
China and Indonesia and say we’re not like that.

Nicely done.

Exactly!

Also did this to get Blair - the future war criminal - elected.

I think Gorton was white-anted by Fraser, playing the long game. The Libs could see the writing on the wall with the 1969 election and put Billy in as a “night watchman”.

Truth. (This is referring to Biden’s comment in an interview with Charlamagne the rapper that if you are black and for Trump then “you ain’t black”).

Simple jokey statement, the (Black) Interviewer never even batted an eye over it, just moved on to say he wanted someone who would do something for his community etc.

But by the Living Lord, … didn’t the Repugnant muckrakers jump on it and try to frame it as a racist comment, … like, within SECONDS!!

Lol, … you can smell the desperation.

Some of those grandiose ideas were fantastic and ahead of the time; they just went about it in the wrong way.

Imagine if Rex Connors plan to buy back all mineral leases and lands had happened for the mere $600 million needed and had been developed as a sovereign wealth fund for all Australians, how wealthy the country could been.

It was a very real concept, I saw the plans, just needed the money, without involving Arab money and Khemlani.
