Why would you play golf with someone who is known to cheat…
Because he’s the president and is frequently known to do multi million dollar favours for people who he thinks like him.
Great opportunity to kiss someones ■■■ if you were so inclined
Look, this isn’t really the coronavirus thread. All I’ll say to finish up is that the mortality rate isn’t fixed but varies by country and circumstances, and that adjusted for population to Australia’s size Sweden would have around 10k deaths. Obviously the pandemic isn’t finished, so who knows what that will be in the end, and contrary to common media reporting Sweden did have some level of lock down. But it was significantly less than us, and will presumably cause less economic damage.
An interesting and relevant read. I think some of it is not quite correct (if you really taxed corporations and the rich, there is a lot of money, the USA is still as a nation one of the wealthiest in the world), and I think the assumptions around why the left didn’t support Bernie and Warren is also simply his opinion. But overall a good article.
Info on Trump 11,390 tweets:
The second week of October was his busiest, with 271 tweets (thats approx 38 per day, when does he find time for ‘presidential work’?)
!
thought we had cleared this up. Not sure why you insist on presenting mystical figures from sweden, you could have gone for UK spain italy etc but then the argument would be obvious!
Herd immunity happens because everyone gets it or dies so there is total immunity.
We KNOW that australias death rate is above 1%. We know that if the health system can cope we can expect 1% +. From countries that lost control it was 6%+. For australia the figure would be 250,000+ if the health system coped.
Health officials and the government have stated the health system would not cope without the lockdown. The herd immunity which still insist is an option would kill 1.5 million Australians. You can stop using 10,000, it has NO basis.
Countries like the UK that contemplated herd immunity soon realised it wasn’t an option not sure why you insist it was.
Assuming that sweden will have less damage is also problematic. they arent anywhere near herd immunity and when the virus is under control worldwide we will see who’s economy fared best and I doubt very much that it will be sweden.
Yep. I think most countries have realised that you have to control the virus before you can manage your way towards economic recovery. And the sooner you do this the better. Otherwise you are stuck in a state of prolonged chaos.
Look, why don’t you stop misrepresenting what I said? I said that the pandemic isn’t finished, I’ve said we don’t know. And what I’ve also said is that when we look back, we may find there were better approaches to take. I’ve never said herd immunity is the way to go, which isn’t what Sweden is trying to do anyway.
None of what I said should be controversial. All of it is similar to saying the WHO needs to investigate what could have been done better. I have not once criticised our approach that we took, with the knowledge we had at the time.
You’re making a lot of assumptions about what history will say the best approach for Australia was. You may be right. But you may not be. That is what hindsight analysis is meant to examine. Maybe you just don’t like science?
On 9news, they showed all the beach goers in the USA.
A lady on a speedboat had a sign
“If we followed the rules, we’d still be English. Liberty is essential”
They are a lost cause.
Freedumb!
(I like writing that)
I suspect the Swedish economy will do well relative to others, though they won’t do as well as expected, because the global economy is so linked. I have no problem with Sweden using a different approach and trusting their citizens to make good choices - We will know more after looking at deaths for the next flu season.
And realistically, what works in one country may not work in another. So much depends on the people. Imagine taking the Swedish route in the US. They’d have a million deaths.
She should change the sign:
“If we followed the rules, we’d all be educated.”
On the topic of educated - I actually had a debate with an American (who was lovely) that kept insisting that Australians celebrate the 4th of July.
I kept saying “why on earth would we celebrate your independence?”.
They genuinely thought it was a global holiday.
