My 10 year old dog just learned how to fetch.
Where do expect someone to get VFL practice match stats from?
Thank you very much @theDJR and @Houli_Dooley for the wonderfully visual commentaries and the time and score updates. I came home at 6pm today and read through the game, as if it were happening in front of me.
Lovely work from the two of you. Very much appreciated. Seems as if the VFLm will be a good team for us to follow this year. And seems as if we’ll also be able to get excited about some of the younger and newer players showing their skills and development this year.
Not a peep about Angus Clarke on this thread today. Did he play ?
He did.
Even though I now can’t remember his number.
Um, HE IS wearing #44. So what the hell did Edwards wear, and why was he in #44 last week??? What are EFC doing to us!!!
#14
Cleary the 45 jumper had to be ordered from puma and hasn’t come yet
He’s now known as Tom “Not Ridley” Edwards.
VFL practice match notes
- Zak Johnson for me the most notable stand out. Would of had around 30 disposals and his class and composure stood out. Which considering he had no pre-season at all is very promising. He will play senior footy maybe late this year or next year.
- Saad El-Hawli on a wing started to find his mojo again. Taking some strong marks in front of packs. Running and distributing well.
- Angus Clarke had a solid game. He was extremely aggressive in attacking. He consistently played on immediately when marking and it created metres gained that worried the opposition. Has zero fear
- Nguyen just came back from injury and made an immediate impact. His physicality in defending or attacking in traffic is great. Kicked a nice goal in the last.
- Peter Wright went for a mark and sadly came down awkwardly which looked to be an ankle. Went straight for scans and club will update in coming days i hear
- Day-Wicks started the game at centre bounce and immediately got a clearance in the very first play. Midfield role suited him but also looked ok up forward in parts. He has missed a lot of footy the past 5-6 weeks so he was very good considering. He is known to do the freakish things and we saw that in the 3rd Qtr. Kicked a left foot snap 25m out…on the left
side boundary line. - Gerreyn for me had a slight edge over Vigo today when both rotating as ruck forwards. More clean and polished around the ground
- Lual very physical and laid a number of very strong tackles. His work rate very impressive… just has to improve his decision making with ball in hand to be considered for seniors.
- Menzie with two goals and was solid
- Edwards had around 5 shots on goal and ended with 2.2 scoreline. Looked dangerous but windy conditions didn’t help taller forwards on both sides. A lot of forwards mis-reading the wind. Still very solid
- Unwin kicked a very classy goal. He never loses his feet which is his strength for me. A bit quieter today but we still have something there for sure
- Good professional win. Attitude like the seniors spot on and in the end a comfortable 35 point win. Good signs when all your 18 year old draftees all showed something. Draft picks look promising. But look out for that pick 70… he is Martin like with ball in hand
Rosa likes players that are good kicks, what a breath of fresh air.
With all the garbage that Dods spouted in post draft interviews, it never seemed like it was a big priority for him
Steady on, it’s not like we’re playing football here…
Good kicks? …. That’s a new idea
But but but what about good families and leadership qualities. Essential elements for building an AFL list….
I miss knowing if a draftee comes from a good family and is potentially a future leader.
Watching Friday’s game, our kids need to be elite kicks and hit the difficult targets for our ones to be any good.
They all are. And the good news is that they’re not mutually exclusive.
Zach Johnson is the player most talked up in this thread and the first thing Robert Forster Knight mentioned about him in the club draft wrap up was his leadership potential.
