I would argue it’s the same as Gerreyn. Continuously turned it over playing down back. Put him forward and those turn into shots on goals and he was converting 4+ a game instead of having 4+ turnovers a game.
Nguyen - As a forward don’t have to worry about him turning it over. He can pressure in front half and then turn his few touches to impact touches and score involvements.
At the moment he’s a Cat B rookie so doesn’t take up a list spot himself think that’s the case if he stays on 1 more year? Then have to absolutely make a decision on him.

We’ll be inevitably getting rid of 2 Guelfi and Gresham end of year, and got rid of a few last year. And maybe Unwin also?
We are desperately short of small forwards. Should have at least 5 on the list imo. 2-3 in each side. I could easily have all of Kako, Huss and Nguyen in the same side playing forward (if they were all fit and their form warranted it). Rather that than 4+ tall forwards we like to roll with.
I’d hope we find an electric small forward high in the draft this year (no idea if there is one or not?), and still think we’re short of small forwards.
I absolutely think we need more small forwards, and I feel like I’ve been banging on about that as long as anyone, but it’s not much of an answer to Nguyen specifically. If we appointed Michael Bublé as our head coach “we need a head coach” wouldn’t really answer the question “why the ■■■■ did we appoint Canadian crooner and all around entertainer Michael Bublé as our head coach?”
I don’t know if it’s that we need more small forwards or need more from our small forwards.
Think we are over represented in mids who can’t play anywhere else and key forwards. Think we need more key defender and ruck depth.
Kako Huss unwin ADW guelfi Nguyen. I think we can say replace Guelfi with a new small forward and maybe have a slot for 1 more but don’t think we’re that lacking in smalls but need more from them
If you list “guys we’ve played as small forwards” and “guys we’ve played as rucks” there’s really no difference in depth. It’s just that for some reason everyone recognises that just putting someone in the ruck doesn’t make them a ruckman, while putting someone in the forward pocket instantly makes them a forward pocket.
Agree with your point overall. Especially as it pertains to Nguyen. If he’s going to be on the list I do think it’s as a pressure forward more so than a lockdown defender.
Like your point just as we play blakiston as a ruck a defender or a forward it doesn’t automatically make him one of any of those. Think if we get rid of guelfi you can commit to 2 more small forwards on the list

Could tell he was a 17yo unfortunately got shifted out of contests very easily perhaps a bit unfairly but that was his lot. Had one really good mark and inside 50 but as for draftees playing for us didn’t live up to the heights of shanananananhan and huss
