VFL - round 7 vs Swans @ Windy Hill - 11am Saturday 10 May 2025

Personally I wouldn’t waste my time on a hack like Crossley in the MSD. Just play Vis

Agree, looks good enough to compete. He’ll still get beaten but he’ll learn a lot

I don’t give that much of a ■■■■ about winning games this year. It’s so tempting.

Fitness wise, how’s Vigo looking? Not sure if he’s a tinsy bit too green, and I say this as a big ‘play the kids’ type.

Lav was diabolical in the first half and ok in the second

Guelf was pretty quiet

Legitimately exciting

We just kept winning contests.

Third quarter is worth a watch if you run out of pornhub

Lav was very good in the first half except for his disposal. He looked a class above VFL when it came to man on man contests.

Too risky, if Vig (god forbid) then also goes down both programs are fked

Would love to give him a game on the wing in the ones

My review:

  • best four quarter performance I’ve seen from a side in red and black in a long time

  • genuinely exciting kids coming through, and different to the kids we’ve typically had. We won a lot of contests across the ground

  • Tsatas the clear standout player on the field. VfL games can be a bit grubby to watch because the ball tends to bobble around in congestion. Every time it went to him it looked like he was playing a different sport, he’s just super clean off the deck and off the ruckman’s hands and uses handball well to release teammates

  • Cox very exciting in the first half was the other standout. Has put on a bit of size and hit a few packs hard. Again very clean with ground balls which stands out at this level

  • Gerryn and Vigo looked like AFL players. Vigo has a bit of David Hille about him but moves a little better. I wouldn’t mind seeing how he goes in the seniors, he would get a few lessons but that doesn’t hurt when we are not in the hunt. Gerryn a truly exciting prospect, not sure where we found him but one to watch. Really clean

  • Clarke had a poor first half but responded well after the break

  • the rest of the AFL listed players were all ok without being standouts

Really exciting to watch a bunch of kids with intent not just scrape through but really put the foot on the throat

Zak Johnson. Didn’t play, emergency for seniors, not playing.

I understand the thought behind it, but not really a fan given the VFL bye next week.
Unless they plan on debuting him in the AFL, but unlikely.

VFL fixture just continues to be ■■■■■■■ rubbish

Taking Crossley in the MSD means that Southport would be losing one of the better players.

If we have 4 or 5 spots, I’d say we be aggressive with them. Use the last few picks to boost our VFL team and make a finals tilt at that level for our young guys.

Take the 3 we want, then just take the best ruckman IE Crossley (with Vigo giving Goldie the chop out in the seniors) and the best midfielder IE Dom Brew.

We boost our VFL team with two Liston medal chances who are mature and aggressive and also handicap two premiership contenders at the same time.

It’s time to be aggressive but we do it without ■■■■■■■ off any other AFL clubs.

They can nominate contract terms so if they nominate more than 6 months you need to delist someone else off the list at end of year. So you are not picking someone up just to play VFL or you risk having to delist someone at the end of year you don’t want to.

Most nominate 6 thought don’t they to increase the odds of being picked up

I think quite a few of the better ones who know they will get picked up by someone put longer terms.

Regardless doubt the club will pick up anyone they don’t think can play this AFL this year

What’s happened to Hoare btw?

Managed the other week and nothing this week.

Could have been a chance for mid season draft?

Especially now with another key defender gone.

The Dreamer in me wonders if we’re just trying to hide him away after the Ridley injury (as doubtful as it is).
He did try out for our SSP spot from memory?

Very strange otherwise, especially this week given Hayes was promoted.

Wouldn’t be surprised if we gave him a go anyway now

Brew and Crossley aren’t certainties to be taken due to age and limited perceived upside, they are less likely to put 12 months imo

At 25 Crossley is actually in the perfect range for a ruck.
He’s a little short though.

Brew at 28 as a midfielder would be far less likely I’d say.

Still, you’re probably right when I comes to contract length. Crossley has been overlooked a few times, so quite possibly just desperate for a chance.
