The cat or setting up new house ?

Sh-t youre right it was 2015.

Still remember Polkinghorne putting us infront in the 3rd quarter and the roar was humongous for vfl.

Someone above my pay grade has to put a “oh my” surely.

Thought it might have been a bit vague!

Messaged one AFL listed player post game who did well and they noted the ground surface was really poor. To a point they were suprised it was given the ok to play.

Was reading the comments in one of the Tasmania FC social media posts. Their fans are deranged.

VFL PLAYER REVIEW

Tsatas - 32 touches. 6 clearances. 8 inside 50s. This was a miles better 32 touch game then last weeks. Still scrappy disposal but had a lot better overall touches and his clearances and inside 50s were much more effective and damaging. Still had some poor moments where he got happy hacking it for no reason but there were also patches where the rest of the team lost the plot as well which can’t just solely point the blame on him. With Vigo clearly under duress was a bit slack at centre clearance where he had his opponent torch him the other way at centre clearance a few times. But while critical of him last week this was a much better game from him!

Gresham - for the 8th odd week in a row how good is VFL Gresham? 10 touches 4 Goals. Just a live wire all day and consistent contributor. Again alongside Tsatas and Kalpakis, Sellars been some of the key cogs of this VFL teams big run home!

Setterfield - 24 touches 6 clearances 10 tackles. I think I made it clear last week I strongly disliked his game last week and alongside Tsatas said deserved a mulligan from a lot of runs they had put on the board this year. Another one much better game this week. My criticism last week was with a clear advantage at centre clearance he burnt a lot of ball. This week with Vigo being hampered thought he scrapped well at the contests. Good game from one of our senior leaders.

Cox - 12 touches 1 goal 7 hitouts. A much more meh game from cox. A bit dr Jekyll and mr Hyde. Sometimes the effort was there and there was a few times the effort wasn’t there hadn’t seen that from him in a bit. I am not more critical because he was another one whose game was hampered by Vigo’s knock. Had to have various stints in the ruck to relief ruck which would have thrown out some stability and structure to his game. So did the team role and sacrificed a bit of his own game for it.

Visentini - as mentioned above. Was good in the first quarter but copped a knock early second from memory? Was off the ground for a large stretch and then was off for big chunks of the game leading to Sellars, cox and McMahon relief rucking stages. A shame as he was building off last weeks form early. Got smashed when he came back out on the ground but ending up 23 hitouts under duress a huge output. The fact he kept going and provided the rotation and the contest should be applauded. The stats will show he had a stinker but him just getting back out there was a huge help to this side and hope it’s just a knock/corkie and pulls up fine for next week!

Jones - 13 touches 5 intercepts. Another solid jones game. Commentary kept calling him a prodigy but he was solid. No dumb stuff ball in hand just held his own and played his role. Solid contributor of this back 6 who were a big part in this result! Oh just remembered he did have a really bad play where he volleyball set a loose ball directly to a Tassie player. But think he did enough things right to not hang him for just that 1 lowlight for the game!

Kondogiannis - 12 touches 4 inside 50s 3 intercepts. Had a rubbish 1st quarter think there was a minute where he had 3 horrible

Moments back to back to back. But also has some good moments in the second moving the ball forward. Didn’t notice him as the game went on. Was just okay overall didn’t have a lot more to say from his game.

El Achkar - 5 touches 4 tackles. This was probably the worst Huss game I’ve seen all year. Tried hard but couldn’t really get anything going. Was a ball of energy for the team though. Whenever anyone was marking or goaling inside 50 was clearly getting around them and pumping everyone up just didn’t get much going himself. Had one great play late where pressured the ball tackled the player stripped them got up and got the ball forward and almost ended up with a goal but those moments few and far between. This is probably a mulligan game and hope he rebounds next week.

Artemis - 8 touches 2 i50s 3 r50s. Another one who really didn’t get going or do too much on his return to his old stomping ground. Just a bit of a nothing game from jacko. Another one who just refresh and reset for next week.

Guelfi - 8 touches 2.2 and 11 tackles. The pick of the pressure small forwards. Was always buzzing inside 50. Had a great moment early made the attempt to pressure ball carrier and smothered a kick at top of goal square to create a scoring opportunity. Great output and as he said in his post match interview weird him and gresh essentially the older senior leaders but was great for them today leading by example!

Clarke - 15 touches 5 score involvements. Still a bit scatter gun from Clarkey but thought he was solid. Didn’t have prolific numbers but thought he cracked in hard. Don’t really have much commentary on his game one way or the other but thought he was good.

Unwin - 9 touches 2 score involvements. Another week another tease of Unwin. Just bursts through contests at pace, he has a lot of flexibility and movement to spin his way in and out of trouble but just a bunch of grunt and what looks like class but no real output. Again you see the foundations of a player and you see glimpses but never much else. He has a nice play where he just kept paddling a ball forward to create the play inside 50. Alongside with some transition ball. Had a nice lead up mark for his set shot. But didn’t really hit the scoreboard or create much for anyone else. Just teases something. All I can think of as I am writing this is this scene from the simpsons.

Bourke - 9 touches 5 intercepts 7 tackles. Another good Bourke performance. Has a bit of mongrel in him today. A few weeks ago he looked really rattled from contact. Today he embraced it threw himself into contests laid some crunching tackles and what he did do was solid. Highlight was a nice intercept mark followed up by a beautiful kick inside 50 to a leading forward that hit them perfectly. Good game

Johnson - B O G. 32 touches 11 of them intercepts alongside 9 rebound 50s 93% efficiency. Started like a house on fire and continued all day. Was intercepting not just marks but was cutting off handballs in tight and then damaging off turnover. Had a great play hitting Nguyen got it back side stepped and laced out unwin. Was just classy all day except 1 horrible kick out hit the opponent 50m out from goal who luckily missed the set shot. Was on 27 touches at about the 15 minute mark of the last quarter and didn’t touch it for the bulk of the rest of the game and would still have been best afield then when they parked the bus had about 5 cheap junk time kicks and marks when they were running the clock down forcing Tassie to defend. Thought was nice when Menzies looked to be in trouble from a big hit late appeared to be the only player to go and check on him and then Clarke also came over none of the Tassie boys appeared there.

El Hawli - 17 touches 5 i50s, 4 r50s and 5 intercepts. I don’t want to be negative to this extreme but this was a delistable performance. Knows he’s without a contract but absolutely could have cost him another one today. Another one who has such a big discrepancy from their best and worst. His intercepts again really solid. But some of his iq/decision making was horrific. End of the 2nd quarter that just wouldn’t end 4 goals up and Saad takes a kick in that has to be seen to be believed. Just looked up it’s the 33:35 mark of the quarter. He kicks it 60m straight down the middle of the ground to NO ONE. No set play, no bomber within 20m of the kick end of a quarter you’re 4 goals up hands it directly to Tassie who go back and kick a goal. They proceed to then win the next centre clearance and kick a goal and then win the next centre clearance and luckily kick a point. But almost changed the entire complexion of the game from that one decision. Had another couple of average turnovers in the second half. I like his creativity and how he’s got his intercept game going second half of season but he is almost too much of a liability with his decision making at bad times in bad spots. Just really disappointed in his game as I do really like him.

Nguyen - 7 touches 2 goals 2 clearances. Another solid Jayden performance. Another one who didn’t really pop up too much but thought he was max impact from his touches. Kicked a ripper contested goal early. And thought he was clean whenever he popped up and had good pressure up forward. Has a lot of just really good traits just probably needs one more weapon to add to his game as a forward but there’s some good signs for him. Hope we keep another year as we can as a cat b rookie.

Edwards - 5 touches 2 goals from Shifty. Just a solid contribution. Has a shocker where he mucked up a certain goal and then made up for it about 5 mins later. Another one that didn’t have a whole lot of output but still managed to bob up kick 2 and contribute.

McMahon - 5 touches 3 goals 4 hitouts. Almost the same as Edwards above. Didn’t get it a lot still found a way to bob up and make the most of his few opportunities and convert. Again had to do some relief ruck work in the rotations with vigo being hampered. I think you would take 10 touches and 5 goals as a return from McMahon and Edwards.

Quick VFL hits because why not in for a penny in for a pound.

Hateley - 20 touches 0.2 7 clearances. Close to the pick of the VFL players worked hard in that midfield crew and held up his end. Missed a set shot left then missed a shot right within a few minutes but solid output.

Kalpakis - 14 touches 7 intercepts. Will say it again really like him as a rookie option and more so than sellers. Think he’s a better and more natural defender. Is poor ball in hand had a horrible turnover but usually plays within his means and hands it off to others regularly. Was good today again.

O’Neill -horrible captains game I’m sorry. 8 touches 6 free kicks against. Started the 4th quarter poorly had about 4 free kicks against within the first 10 minutes I know everyone pointed out he should have got one instead for a trip. But he got tripped looked up and waited for 3 seconds before someone just came and tackled him and he froze waiting for a whistle. Just play to the whistle or at least make an attempt. If he was BOG last week had him as WOG this week and another one entitled to a mulligan for their performance all year as well as last week. One to forget.

Kitchell - barely noticed him. Know there’s special rules on the 23rd man can only be 18-20 or something? Not sure who else we use for this role. 5 touches for not a lot of output.

Sellars - 18 touches 1 goal 4 intercepts. Another good Sellars game. Liked he took responsibility on his set shot went back from 55 and nailed it. Was solid down back. He can play a bit too loose as a key back but was okay today. Don’t like everytime he gets the ball he looks straight down the line and kicks it 50-60m down the line everytime he doesn’t look left or right like he’s ever gonna switch play. Was my main criticism watching him last year and he’s been better this year but thought that crept back into his game today. I think he’s been phenomenal late this year but think he’s overhyped for an AFL call up I just see his downsides getting exposed by better forwards but has been one of our best contributors in the vfl this year!

Overall was a surprising good game to watch. Horrific listen. I know people ■■■■ on Kelli underwood. The next thing I hate to listen to is Will Schoefield commentating an eagles game but this was next level. I have never had such a visceral negative reaction to having to listen to the Robertson commentary for 3 quarters of this game. No non team affiliated broadcast should be saying WE, US, OUR and actively barracking that aggressively during a broadcast. The message came in at 3QT because as dons kicked away the commentary mood changed completely to talking about the dons back 6 and individual players and performances. My main important takeaway from this game is I hope Vigo is alright. Last week showed how dominant he can be with a ruck advantage this week was great to see us deal with some adversity to our ruck setup and still manage to grind out a win against good opposition. Know we beat the hawks about 2 months ago but think this will be another close tight matchup. Looking forward to it!

I loved the game today, but as a Tasmanian Bombers supporter, today I was true to my state and was barracking for the Devils. Proud of the way they fought the game out and took it up to the Bombers in many spot fires during the game. It was always going to be a loss to the Devils - that 20-30 points against AFL alingned clubs always seems to haunt them, AFL experience, strength and consistent training etc, BUT saying this, I am truly glad the VFL team can continue in the finals series, they deserve success. But there were quite a few Bombers players that I thought did not live up to their hype. These are just my opinions

Having hailed from Hobart it was good to see the old HMC school in the background, just off the goals at the northern end. Have played that ground back in the late 1960s in the under 17s, Hobart colts beaten in the grand final by Glenorchy by 1 point. The North Hobart ground has not changed much in what … 50 to 60 years. Actually, Tassy has changed quite a bit since the 60s, everyone who could left and their places were filled up with retirees. Better to retire on the Gold Coast, just a shame that our second team couldn’t do better(GC). All the best to the devils when thy enter the AFL, Cheers Surfer Don

Can’t really disagree with any of that. One thing I’d add is that despite the goals from McMahon and Edwards, those two and Cox really failed to create an aerial forward presence. Which was a real problem for our F50 entries and ball movement when we couldn’t run it. McMahon took a few leading marks but that was mostly it.

While Kalapakis, Sellers and co created a wall the other end.
