Hopefully more accurate than the last time around, though the looooong TBC list kinda undercuts it.

When the VFLW equivalent comes out, I expect to be mocking it badly. Hopefully this time he starts by removing the very-publicly-retired players.

EDIT: it’s coming out tomorrow.

Another year of failing to secure decent VFL talent, and another year coming up of getting flogged when we there’s attrition to our AFL list. We love to talk up taking the VFL seriously, but it looks like it will be an after thought yet again. Pathetic effort from a weak and ineffectual club.

Feel free to list the decent VFL talent we missed out on then?

Still wondering why he hasn’t turned up to training yet?

Voss?

Because, for whatever reason, the AFL has farked over the Victorian clubs with teams in the VFL. SANFL club salary caps are 345K, WAFL 250K, VFL is only 110K.
WTF we would agree to this, and other AFL clubs with VFL teams, is beyond me.

its not Tigers, pies, and essendon…
its the poorer clubs - Hawks, Dogs, Saints, North etc weight of numbers and too many clubs where AFL basically control.

Firstly the SANFL sets its own salary cap in no consultation with the AFL.
The genuine SANFL clubs get $345k but the two AFL get only a small fee to bring in a few “top up” players. There are also strict rules over who the two AFL clubs can sign. All this is done to handicap the AFL sides and prevent them from dominating the comp.
SANFL clubs generally recruit well too as they are still very community based and it’s a sense of pride so sponsors will happily find employment for player and partner plus facilitate housing and help with things like education. So for the player who wants to have a second chance at AFL they get to play in a pretty decent comp and get looked after amazingly well. One of the things that interstate players always comment on is how well they are looked after and how enjoyable their time is and many will stay on

How’s the VFL squad looking this year? Is the depth looking much deeper than last year.

I said decent.

Given the salary cap constraints on AFL affiliated clubs its seemingly difficult to acquire a decent VFL list of players

If we want a competitive VFL team it needs to be being carried by our AFL listed players

Which needs essentially a healthy list and good depth

You can compare our list changes to other VFL teams. Many AFL affiliated teams have kept way more players than us

Yet the other AFL clubs seems to manage to do it. I mean Norf even finished above us.
What are these other clubs doing, why do they hold on to their players and we lose ours?
Something isn’t right

Wait we are complaining another year with a poor VFL list but also complaining we made changes to the poor VFL list from last year?

I think 3 or 4 of our top 5 from the B&F are no longer with us. Of course we need to make changes but you would hope we keep the decent ones and get rid of the ones not up to it
