VFL Signings - Season 2024

That’s a good point, regardless I would still wait and see. It wouldn’t hurt to bring in a tall to train right now but they would need to really show a lot for me to add them with such little time before the season starts.

Will Sutherland was a good footy player before choosing Cricket from memory… might be too good at Cricket though and his dad was an Exec on CA i think

Yeah he’ll end up in the Aussie squads once the big 3 plus Boland and Neser start retiring

Can hold the bat to.

i thought Cal and Emma Q had him top 5 conversation before he chose Cricket…

He wouldn’t take long to get up to speed that’s for sure

@benfti or anyone else, are the Kantilla boys potential options for a rookie b spot or future listing?

Yes he might have had a small role in there somewhere.

That was my thought too. Too disorganised to have a VFL list finalised, so roping in a couple of local indigenous boys.

I think it’s a nice move to give the Tiwi academy some spots in the side. Not everything needs to be explained with the worst possible answer. Not including a few Tiwi boys in the side would be a really bad move.

I would imagine we are a bit short and have decided to give a few boys a run which is great.
As I mentioned a few posts back, I’m fairly certain Kim Kantilla has signed back on at South Adelaide in the SANFL for this year but I will double check. He was enjoying his time down here last I heard and his family are royalty in SA so it’s probably been a bit easier to immerse himself in the comp down here. I

The VFLW squad also has five Tiwis included — one of whom played with us in 2019.

And naming a Puruntatameri and a Rioli should drag a few more people through the gates.

I’m a bit hazy on the current rules, I have vague memory that if they are playing state league somewhere (people may remember we enquired about adding Wallas cousin as a category B a while back and got denied) it may impact eligibility which is relevant in Kim’s case, but the other lads might be a shot if they play well.

With that being said we should have a spot on the VFL list for a player from the Tiwi every year if we were serious about developing talent out of that region into AFL players (which all evidence suggests we aren’t)

With the healthy state of the senior list and the likelihood of very capable footballers missing selection and playing in the magoos, I’m surprised this thread hasn’t been bumped more regularly… Best 22?

All I’ll add here is, I’m hoping that the healthy list produces a stronger, more competitive VFL side. It looks as if Essendon could just about field a complete seconds side from its senior list. Finally.

No right minded, intelligent (fark Carlton), football loving person would want us to remain at the embarrassing, lowly VFL football depths of the past two years. Upwards and onwards, I say.

Lid Off.

Edit. I suppose the thread is about signings and not on field success.

I don’t think we’ve even finalised our VFL side have we? I know a chunk of it will likely be those who played in the NT game but thought there was still a few more to go
