VFLW - rep game vs NT @ TIO Stadium, 6pm Wed 24 Jan 2024 - streamed

I missed the NT naming their (extended) squad a month ago.

A few obvious names there: ex-VFLW Cat and AFLW Tigger Steph Williams and VFLW Dog Molly Althouse are dangerous, Maighan Fogas is ex-AFLW and ex-VFLW-Bomber, and the Tiwis have put up a Rioli…

The VFL(M) game is listed as starting at 7:45, so it looks like the VFLW game will be their normal 15 minutes + time on.

(And then no on-ground warm-up time for the men!)

This will likely be a Radio 3DJR exclusive (unless you pay Murdoch for access to the NT News site).

They do all NTFL and NTFLW games, so you’d expect they’d do this too.

Here’s another one to worry about: 29 goals in 5 NTFLW games this year.

Yes, she’s the one who umpired our first AFLW game at 16yo.

She was an excellent ump.

@theDJR Have we got a Coach yet.

Pfft. Leaders are over-rated.

(All 4 of last year’s player leaders gone too.)

Hopefully someone at EFC is aware these games are coming up. Prod some media people with sticks, @Catherine_Lio & @Paul_Cousins

RepCaptains

AFL Northern Territory is excited to announce Ryan Nyhuis and Jasmyn Hewett as captains of the 2024 Cazalys NTFL Representative sides who will take on Essendon VFL and VFLW next Wednesday evening.

Former Fremantle draftee and current Nightcliff captain Ryan Nyhuis will lead the Men’s side and Adelaide Crows AFLW premiership player Jasmyn Hewett from PINT will be in charge of the Women’s side. For Nyhuis and Hewett, this will be their third appearance in the famed Ochre colours.

Jasmyn Hewett started her TIO NTFL journey at St Mary’s kicking 32 goals in just 16 games before moving across to PINT. Her time at PINT has been successful with 40 games, 52 goals, and named among the best players 19 times throughout.

Hewett then extended her career by joining the Adelaide Crows at pick no. 16 in the 2017 AFL Women’s draft. She went on to play seven games between 2018 and 2019 before signing with the Gold Coast Suns playing six games before moving back to Adelaide for Season 6 and Season 7 of the AFLW.

In the 2020/21 TIO NTFL Season, Hewett received the Best and Fairest Medal for her incredible season involving 25 goals across 17 games with nine of those games as best player.

She is a two-time TIO NTFL Women’s Premier League Grand Final Best on Ground recipient, winning the medal in the 2020/21 and 2022/23 seasons.

Hewett also appeared for the NT Thunder 17 times in the 2018 and 2019 VFL Women’s competition.

The NTFL Buffaloes side has a pristine record against the Essendon Bombers, winning against the red and black in 1986, 1989, 1994, and again in 1998.

At least they didn’t include Ponter!

Maybe we saw the Norwegians are forecasting it will rain all 24 hours of that day…

Maria Rioli is a surprise - I thought she was linked to Richmond.

Yay, and we get (some of the) Tiwis.

Numbers are weird.

Numbers are weird indeed!

Some match old numbers, some don’t match what they’ve been training in, some are the “safe” numbers 40+ but others will clash with AFLW numbers.

They don’t necessarily match size-wise either: I’ve seen Mahony training in 9 and she’s much smaller than Morrow.

I hope they have (both) team lists on the day!

No… for my reference too. Nothing on the efc website… or completely buried somewhere!

EFC article up, only new news is:

There will be a livestream available for fans, with details to be announced shortly.
