Dicker lead our tackles (15) and clearances.
I watched 5 mins at the end of Q3. I reckon there were about 5-6 HO to advantage, but no clearance!
Back in our YCW comp days…no time on…when we’re kicking with the wind, 4 or 5 guys behind the goals to get the ball back quickly. Into the wind…those guys come back to the wing.
LOL, Hawks 39 inside fifties to the Cat’s 20.
3.9.27 draws 4.3.27
Find someone who loves you as much as Box Hill loves throwing away a win.
The point of this photo was the need to prop against the wind!
My model and my picks are saying we’re playing FCFC at Windy Hill in the first week of finals… but next week everything can be blown apart by the EFC-Port and the Saints-Willy games.
I’ve tipped Port and Saints to win, but it’s a toss-up – if it goes the other way, we and Willy “should” finish 1-2!
Place | Team | Wins | Place | Team | Wins | |||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Port | 10 | or | 1 | EFC | 9.5 | ||
2 | Saints | 10 | 2 | Willy | 9 | |||
3 | EFC | 8.5 | 3 | Port | 9 | |||
4 | FCFC | 8 | 4 | Saints | 9 | |||
5 | Willy | 8 | 5 | FCFC | 8 | |||
6 | Pies | 8 | 6 | Pies | 8 | |||
7 | Norf | 8 | 7 | Norf | 8 | |||
8 | Cats | 7.5 | 8 | Cats | 7.5 | |||
9 | Hawks | 7 | 9 | Hawks | 7 | |||
10 | Casey | 6 | 10 | Casey | 6 | |||
11 | Dogs | 3 | 11 | Dogs | 3 | |||
12 | Darebin | 0 | 12 | Darebin | 0 |
Note that in the latter case we finish top with the 8th best percentage!
Norf are up to winning their last two games (Darebin and Pies), but their very bad percentage means they need to reply on at least one of those above them collapsing.
Sophie Molan’s goal was her first for EFC. Played the whole game as a mid, insofar as I could see anything from my vantage point.
No replays for any games up yet.
What Mia said!
42 points is our highest score this year (so far).
42 points was our 14th highest score last year.
The squads are totally not comparable, but we’ve willed ourselves to 7 wins in the past 9 games (and the losses were by 2 and 8 points).
Today was hard. That’s what made it great.
The “Happy Birthday” after the game was for (at least) Maddy Gray (19). Maddy Pearson (21) up tomorrow. Chloe Prpic (19) was during the week, as of course was Queen Fede (27).
Paige Scott posted the clip of Gray knocking her out earlier this year: I think MadGray is forgiven
And here’s the video of how Meg Ryan got that goal, from a centre clearance and big kick with the wind by Sophie Molan.
All replays are up.
Inside fifties:
EFC | Casey | |
---|---|---|
Q1 | 13 | 4 |
Q2 | 0 | 12 |
Q3 | 11 | 3 |
Q4 | 0 | 9 |
TOTAL | 24 | 28 |
Quarter 1:
- Chaston starts on the much shorter #8 Fairchild (who will end up with 21 disposals).
- Dicker starts on #26 Danckert (who will end up with 25 disposals). Dicker immediately takes her down in a tackle.
- Molan is much bigger than #7 Marla Neal (who when you’re watching from a distance seems to get more of it than the stats end up showing – bright headwear has that effect).
- Their starting mids are 25, 26, and 27 yo – ours are 21/21/22. We’ve chucked 18yo Davidge and (as of Thursday) 19yo Prpic to the HFFs.
- On a day when most (rightfully) bombed long with the wind, Davidge’s early precise chip to Ryan is nice.
- Prpic was almost invisible today. Over-the-hill old?
- Courtney is about the only person who has tucked in her jumper, making her shorts look huge.
- Manfre has either increased her speed or her opponent is very slow: runs away from before kicking the second point of the day.
- @theDJR making this broadcast all about himself.
- One thing I noticed a lot today was Casey at the wrong end played in front (sensible). We did not do that as much, and that’s part of the reason they got some inside fifties (but not scores) at the wrong end, and we did not.
- LOL at Meg being un-takedown-able, to set up our first goal.
- Ump sees head-high contact first and throw second. Guess which one they paid?
- Great work by Kendra at 11:20: toe tap, shepherd /bump, tidy pick-up and handball to Crook.
- The Cornish lack-of-clean-hands is worse on replay (straight through the hands and then legs).
- #36 Teagan Williams’ power stood out today many times. She also turns quicker than the Titanic now, unlike in her two games with us last year.
- Crook definitely didn’t do anything at 12:35… apart from getting it out to Dicker nicely.
- It was the distant ump who paid Molan the lucky high tackle (and consequent goal) at 17:30.
I get this now. Of course, those signed options were closed, and the actual options were all right-of-screen on the camera side.
Quarter 2:
- Can I skip the even quarters?
- Every time Casey miss, we win. One down
- Dicker takes Swain to the ground, exactly unlike how lions fail to do so to buffalo.
- 1:30… oh Meg. Starts too far away from the ruck contest, so just does a flying knee to Swain. Free. Swain still make the tap; not clear if she got a corky out of it.
- Bella calmly marks the high slow kick forward.
- Crook calmly kicks out on the full
… luckily she marks the shot one goal, and then informs the ump what the Laws of the Game say about marks close to goal.
- Lovely shepherd by Kendra at 4:00, but Hurrell takes too long to dispose and is run down.
- Ziggy/Boofhead starts barking.
- 5:20 Chaston persuades Dicker not to commit homicide.
- Meg is loving being in the ruck again, even/especially against Swain.
- 6:00… without the wind that was a 5 metre kick. With it… well, it was not anywhere 15. Ump pls.
- Dicker doesn’t stop Chaston roughing up Dankert, and smiling as they do so.
- Bella catches a Demon, yobbo yells BAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLL. Ump says no. Gives us a marginal high free on Courtney immediately afterwards, though.
- 8:45: this is why you don’t put Cornish in the ruck. Free to Swain, fifty out.
- We’re lucky that our backs’ ability to mark is >>>>>>> than their forwards’. Lovely tap from Swain to Danckert is instantly in fifty, but Hurrell makes the intercept.
- Then Hurrell again, then Pearson.
- Swain hits the post, and the game is not a draw.
- 15:15 onwards you can admire Ziggy’s hair flowing luxuriantly in the wind.
- Swain grabs the ball out of the ruck at 16:23 and it takes a literal five seconds of non-effort to dispose before the free is given to Morrow.
- Swain smothers but then instantly gives away another free
- Ford cops a heavy bump – maybe to the head, maybe not – at 17:40. Is still down when Casey fail to tie the game, again.
Quarter 3:
- Cornish handballing to two Demons instead of snapping for goal from 14 out… is not improved by the replay.
- Swain stands in the umps’ face every ball-up, and nearly every time our smaller ruck then has to grab/bump/go around her.
- Davidge did not take her contractually-obliged CLUNK today.
- Mia cops a blow to her right ribs in a fall at 12:50. Holds it for at least a minute, and has left the ground before Manfre goals. But she’s not dead after the game, don’t worry.
- At 17:30 every player agrees it’s a free or a ball-up. Ump says no.
- At 18:10 a Demon gets crushed and runs off with a busted wing. Can’t spot her number.
- Lovely bump/shepherd by Bella at 18:35
Quarter 4:
- Sutton and Ugle (and Neal) cop decent hits early. Courtney’s is the worst: waiting under a high ball and Nianh O’Neill comes flying through with a knee to the ribs. After she hands off the ball, Courtney runs straight at O’Neill to lay a return bump.
- There’s a two minute sequence of nine stoppages 30-40m out from Casey’s goal at 9-11 minutes into the quarter.
- Around 14 minutes in, when Casey finally get a point, La Presidenta is seeing none of the footy because Ziggy is going very silly over a water bottle.
- The bounce with 3 minutes left is almost the most ridiculous goal ever, and from now on we know we are one kick from losing (and basically no prospect of getting it back). SCARY!
- Casey players getting demonstrative as we enter the last minute.
I’m never gonna watch this again, but geez those last 11 minutes was us fantastically refusing to die.
