One down, 2 to go.

Actually, one to go, but finals are LOCKED IN.

Now hope Casey trip up vs Footscray next week.

Thanks radio DJR for reporting from discomfort of the boomerang box outside the pale - deserve a Walkley for that

Thanks for the call DJR. Wish I could have been out there today. Covid sucks

I forgot to count the crowd. About a dozen, I think Essendon was just barely the majority.

We added 4% today.

Footscray lost 10% today and at least one team will kick them out of the six tomorrow (Fark Carlton play St Kilda, Norf play Port).

Casey playing Darebin later today. To get a home final we need Footscray to give a ■■■■ next week, and we need to beat Darebin by a fair bit more than they do.

The final score ended up being similar to our game earlier this year vs Willy, but I’m a fair bit happier with this game. They were lucky we kicked 4.11…

As with that previous game, Willy got a lot of the ball from stoppages but then couldn’t do much with it. Keeping them to 1 point in the second half was testament to that.

We dropped/did not have available two tall defenders today (I’m assuming it was not practical for Ahrens to fly in from QLD). That was a bit of a risk and as a result Ashley-Cooper exited the midfield and played as a defender all day. She’s not tall (165cm) but she uses her bulk very well. Really good game by her.

The two unscheduled weeks off meant that CBomb could come back with zero doubts on her hammy, and she gave us lots of zip off the backline.

Yassir played full-time as a mid, and was notable along with Nanscawen, Ugle, and Barba. Svarc and Anthony were the wings and also contributed. Svarc’s goal was special but her pressure around the ground was her main contribution. Dicker relatively quiet.

The small forward roles were rotated through Davies, Friswell, Hosking, and MacDonald. Friswell didn’t get that many touches but was the most dangerous when she did. Should have converted a couple more shots on goal. Davies continues to improve, after I was pretty much ready to write her off earlier this season: is a legit creator of panic amongst the opposition defenders now.

Stepnell… yes, she’s happy to throw herself into a pack. But as a tall forward (not much of that today) and a ruck, she’s a liability. In low scoring games it can be very significant if your ruck gets pantsed.

Tara Slender may not have kicked a goal today (two points?), but she made Willy responsible and took a lot of pressure off Clifford. Really helped our structure. If she gets suspended for that high but innocent tackle, I riot.
