Well, this was quick (but does not recite any stats not already in this thread).

Essendon’s VFLW side has fallen to a well-polished Carlton by 54 points at the NEC Hangar.

Despite a determined effort in windy conditions, the young Bombers were no match for a much more classy Blues outfit.

After a tight first quarter where Essendon only trailed by three points, a Paige Scott goal at the start of the second term gave the Dons the lead and hope of kick-starting their game.

However, Carlton would immediately respond and nullify any Bombers resistance.

An 11-point Blues lead at half-time would turn into an eight goal to one second half, with the visitors running out convincing winners.

Sophie Molan (19 disposals) and Alana Barba (18 disposals) were tireless in their efforts, while utiity Joanne Doonan tried her best under intense pressure with 16 disposals, eight clearances and a goal.

Essendon will look to register their first win of the 2023 season when they face Casey next Sunday at the NEC Hangar from 11am AEST.

ESSENDON 0.0 1.0 1.2 2.2 (14)
CARLTON 0.3 2.5 3.8 10.8 (68)

Out on their own. ALL. ■■■■■■■. DAY.

Over the years, there have been very few games where this team has been less than the sum of its parts. This was absolutely one of them (despite a few of the parts being pretty poor), and was an absolute refusal to learn/react to what was happening out there.

Was more frustrating (and a lot more damaging scoreboard-wise) than the late 2019 Bomb-a-thon to a forward line of midgets vs Norf.

Well done Molan. Bella and Ugle also very good down back.

Lots of touches, but not enough damage, by Barba and Doonan.

Ryan a drop on last week but still useful and improving.

Ball basically never arrived in our forward line in an effective method, with FF Sargent most affected and having the fewest non-injured disposals (but unlike others, she was not actively hurting us).

The other nominal FF, Manfre, just looked slow today. Scott also stranded forward in the first half, and some clunkers in the second when moved onto the ball.

Hart-Aluni another forward invisible in the first half, but she did some classy stuff later.

Dicker and Heil on 5 disposals? Yikes. Dicker did have a team-leading 8 tackles, though.

We were so bad I barely felt the need to comment on this:

If you believe in fantasy points, here are the top players… and we had 13 of the bottom 18.

  • Based on Darebin games, Casey > Cats > Sts
  • But Casey < Pies, depending on the team they name. We narrowly beat Casey in the pre-season.
  • But Pies << Port
  • But Port << Norf
  • But Norf << Dogs

This season is all over the bloody shop.

Hawks and Saints play each other tomorrow to be the sole undefeated team.

This was our biggest loss since 22 June 2019, when NT Thunder beat us 76-12.

NT Thunder and FCFC have given us our four largest losses.

Well, at least one of them was concentrating on the task at hand…

This is about as much as Kenny as I saw in this game. Also, Bella saving us.

Nek photo: more Kenny!

Ryan doing something, Jacques not so much.

Ye olde Irish ball drop.

Meg practices her phagocytosis.

Scott just crushes them.

I went one-eyed and completely forgot who we were playing against: Hosking takes the brunt while (presumably) three seagulls wait outside of the pack.

I make no comment on Strahan.

Vvooom!
