And it’s a massive shift of mood. We smashed them that quarter, just couldn’t convert. We were set to halve the margin with that obvious in-the-back free. Fark.
Still 3.1.19 trails 5.5.35
No wind, we just got on top. No reason not to do similarly the last quarter.
[Telstra mobile refused to connect to Blitz for four hours.]
Final score 3.2.20 (4.4.28 if you believed the scoreboard!) lost to 8.6.54
Half of Richmond’s scores came from dodgy frees and fifties (which still means they probably would have won without that).
Our defense was magnificent in the first quarter — they had all the ball and only led 8-6 (7 from dodgy frees) at quarter time.
Second quarter their talls (they had a team-wide large size advantage on us) started marking and converting (along with extra help from the other yellow creatures).
We dominated the third quarter (the only one Mackrill turned up for) and somehow failed to score. So many chances not taken. Richmond didn’t even look like scoring.
In the last quarter it was a relatively even tussle but they converted their chances to widen the margin.
The mystery reversal immediately before three quarter time was a big moment: Moreau got buried into the turf at the top of the goal square, and they got the free instead of us getting within two kicks. No idea what happened.
We’re smack bottom of the ladder, with Casey winning their first game and Footscray putting up a reasonable score against NT Thunder (but still getting smashed) to move ahead of us on percentage.
