VFLW - Round 5 v Richmond @ Punt Road, 4pm Saturday 2 June 2018

That was bullshit.

And it’s a massive shift of mood. We smashed them that quarter, just couldn’t convert. We were set to halve the margin with that obvious in-the-back free. Fark.

Still 3.1.19 trails 5.5.35

No wind, we just got on top. No reason not to do similarly the last quarter.

Coach says what I said, stirring them up with the positive message.

(Well, he didn’t mention the rubbish umpiring.)

Mackrill was back in action that quarter. Smashing packs.

Ump free for clearance. Ump free at thirty five.

Umps score the point.

19-36

Nice series of passes and marks down the wing by us.

Malliaris been good for us in the midfield.

Trapped down our end, excellent pressure.

Ump panics and pays free they couldn’t see. Plus fifty.

Umps having yet another set shot at goal.

Ump falls short.

Ump has a set shot free from ten out, goals.

@DJR - Re: 89.1 FM at the ground

Damn. We had trouble at the start getting things right. How badly quiet was it, whisper level?

If I turned the radio fully up I could hear OK — except then the hum was painful. Lasted the full game.

[Telstra mobile refused to connect to Blitz for four hours.]

Final score 3.2.20 (4.4.28 if you believed the scoreboard!) lost to 8.6.54

Half of Richmond’s scores came from dodgy frees and fifties (which still means they probably would have won without that).

Our defense was magnificent in the first quarter — they had all the ball and only led 8-6 (7 from dodgy frees) at quarter time.

Second quarter their talls (they had a team-wide large size advantage on us) started marking and converting (along with extra help from the other yellow creatures).

We dominated the third quarter (the only one Mackrill turned up for) and somehow failed to score. So many chances not taken. Richmond didn’t even look like scoring.

In the last quarter it was a relatively even tussle but they converted their chances to widen the margin.

The mystery reversal immediately before three quarter time was a big moment: Moreau got buried into the turf at the top of the goal square, and they got the free instead of us getting within two kicks. No idea what happened.

It’s not a true highlights package if it doesn’t include the ten minutes of EVACUATE notices.

Needs a lot more Lisa.

Stats are out.

Bullas 18 tackles after last week’s 19. The next highest (for both teams) was Malliaris with 9. Yowsers.

With a goal and 13 disposals that got her ranked first across both teams.

Ugle was our best otherwise, with 22 disposals, 4 marks and 4 tackles. Lots of class.

We’re smack bottom of the ladder, with Casey winning their first game and Footscray putting up a reasonable score against NT Thunder (but still getting smashed) to move ahead of us on percentage.
