VFLW - Round 5 vs Pies @ Victoria Park, 11am Sat 22 April 2023

Today was frustrating, but promising in many ways.

Our backline remains an overt strength. Georgia Clarke slotted straight in and starred there in the first half, before going forward and being dangerous there too. Got size, can mark, and a pretty big kick too.

Ashley-Cooper did her job comfortably down back. Had a play late in the game where she dodged past multiple Pies on a postage stamp.

Kenny had her best game of the year, especially when she didn’t have the ball.

Doonan was good, but Radford was great. Barba racked it up inside the packs. Ugle spent time on the wing and half-back (particularly damaging during the latter). The crew is back together!

Amber Clarke had her best VFLW game so far. Was un-catchable, and her kicking was particularly damaging.

Ryan was second ruck today but continued being beastly all over the ground. I’d suggest Russell is going to struggle to get a game until Wales goes into AFLW pre-season.

Wilson Chaston and Hart-Aluni all had chances near goal, and mostly blew them. It helped when Clarke moved forward, giving us a mobile marking tall. Having Clifford back will help, not just for herself but also as THE forward leader.

Dicker spent more time forward this week than in the first month, and was consequently the game’s leading goal kicker.

Prpic did some nice team and pressure things.

Keck was a terrier forward till she got injured.
