Essendon (13th, 0-6) remain winless after seven rounds, losing to Hawthorn by 28 points last week. The Casey Demons (10th, 1-4) lost their fourth match in Round 7, beaten by the Western Bulldogs to the tune of three points.
KEY QUESTION
Can the Demons finish close games? Three of Casey’s four defeats have been by margins of less than eight points. Against the Hawks in Round 2, the Demons led by 12 points at half time but ultimately fell by seven, while the following week against the Saints, they gave up a 12-point three-quarter-time lead to lose by eight. On a brighter note though, Casey did fight back from nine points behind the Bulldogs to fall just short last week.
KEY STAT
Essendon will be looking to win more of the ball after recording 113 fewer disposals than Hawthorn in Round 7. The Bombers only held possession for 39 per cent of the match and were left chasing their opponents – evident their high tackle count (98 to the Hawks’ 80).
