Fark people bagging Hilley.
Hille was never quick but he ran all day unlike many others.
The hell?
Except not as unco.Has a Bit of David Hille about him.
Hille had great hands around the ground. Good field kick. Good mark overhead, terrific leader & a very hard worked. There was a year or two at his absolute peak he was in the top couple of rucks in the comp.
I'd love it if either Belly or Giles were as good players for this club as Hille was.
I'm sorry but he was unco.
He couldn't hit the side of a barn in front of goal and everytime he had a set shot you had to hold your breath and close your eyes, ball drop was Trent West-esque at times.
Was a great leader but he was an awkward player in my opinion.
But he was money when he was on the run.
Well maybe not money, but was a good shot on the run.

His goalkicking wasn't even *that* bad. Some years he was 50/50, some years he was really good from a set shot (2003-04 when he was mainly a forward).
Rest of his skills were really good for a big bloke.

agreed
^ Last final we won was because he kicked 3 in the last quarter.
Welcome to Essendon-David Hille
David Hille was a legend.
Put him outside the 50 on the boundary line and it was a guaranteed goal.
As noted, he did a lot of 50+ metre runs to provide a link through the midfield.
If Giles provides even half the service for us that Hilley did, then hes worth his weight in gold. Have the upmost respect and admiration for David Hille, outstanding clubman.
Hille was aggressive as fark too. Would have snapped that punce Ryder in two without even trying.
Also , tremendous taste in eyewear…
Just to make it clear, I was not knocking Hille as a leader or person as he was an amazing figure for club for many years and had some amazing games.
Just that he was a bit awkward and “unco” at times.
For his height (196) Ryder did an impressive job. Much like the undersized Barnes (enjoyed the Sheehan Iinterview) for the Cats and then Essendon in 2000. His durability freakish considering his height and weight. Then again, his style of play avoided the serious clashes.
Ryder was one of those steady players you coud rely on. Someone who always got the job done. Yeah, steady and honest (with what he gave on the field).
Don’t think he’ll be as big a loss as ‘we’ originally thought.

Steady and reliable are two words that I would never associate with Ryder ever. He gave us one consistent season out of 8. And played one outstanding game against the Pies in 09.
There were countless occassions where Ryder was nowhere to be seen and barely had an impact on games.
He'll be consistent at Port because he's now entered his prime. We developed him and persisted with him and they'll reap the rewards.
It sickens me.
I should've made it clear, I was talking about this year

It’s probably been mentioned before but the irony of Giles being on Port’s senior list for 4 years before he debuted for the Giants in 2012 finishing 5th in their b&f. He played all 22 games in 2013 finishing 9th in total hitouts in the league. Now here’s a bloke about ready to hit his prime!
Already been mentioned that Giles first year at GWS where they were getting smashed was statistically comparable to Ryder’s best year this year. It’s quite remarkable really.
Won’t do the magical things Paddy could do or perhaps have as much touch with tap outs but in terms of consistent impact with grunt factor I think we have landed a great get.
Hille was never quick but he ran all day unlike many others.
And he used his size and broke packs open, unlike many others.

Good call Ms Morisette.

I find this post ironic. (In an Alanis way)
