Hird making it all about himself again.
Also, I'd say that is a fair indication that Hird sees playing the two ruckmen together part of his vision for the team.
You've at least got to say that to get them on board don't ya? ;)

If we are going to be landing the BIG name free agent next year it will be because of Hird

You're treading a dangerous path even contemplating it at this point...

Deserves a pat on the back for his courage though

could he please field the question as to who he thinks we're getting?
Looking forward to summer interviews with the True Value Solar Centre's janitor, pool cleaner, boot studder, carpark attendant....etc who all stayed on after having a conversation with Hird :)

Welcome, big fella.

Dangerfield, Watson, Cooney, Goddard, Heppell, Zerrett...
Should be able to play some decent footy in the middle with that bunch.
I guess add Zaka, Colyer, Myers, Hocking and that's a very solid middle. Yes, three of them will be getting on but there's a good combination of speed, inside strength, skilled disposal, defensive pressure and forward nous there. Would they match or beat Hawthorn or Sydney's middle when they're on? It's only comparing names on paper but I'd say there's as much polish there as any other midfield.
And yes, as much as I love Stants and Howlett I think they should be struggling to get a game by 2016 if most of them are fit (which won't always be the case I realise) Stants will be hitting 250 games by then.
Poor man's Ironmonger.
Poor man's Ironmonger.
Bit harsh. He was pushing hard for AA in the Giants first year in the comp - really carried them at times.
If he can recapture anything like that form, we've done very very well.
Personally, I like Giles. I liked him at the Giants and he really helped them out early on in their existence. He‘s got good hands and seems to make smart decisions with the ball. I wouldn‘t be worried about his ball drop, it looks weird but his kicks are actually pretty accurate.
Watching that clip of him, he actually looks quite fit and mobile at the moment. I think he‘s the perfect age for a ruck and now could be his time to blossom.
I really hope we all get a pleasant surprise with his inclusion in 2015!

Jumping from the Conor McKenna thread to this one has me considering applying for membership to the Lid Off thread.

To my mind he is one of those workhorse ruckmen though - a la David Hille or Ivan Maric.
Doesn't really have the tools to damage when he's out of the action. But he can cope with, and actually thrives on, being in the action all the time and just cracking in time after time.
I've no doubt if he gets a start at any point, he'll be tricky to shift out of it.
What happens if we're sharing with Bellcho / Giles / Daniher / Carlisle is harder to see.
He is a great ruckman to start the game and bash into the Opp ruckman for 2 quarters then play forward in the 3rd and subbed half way through it.
He is better than some on here are giving him credit.
If I remember he is not slow for a ruckman either.
Howler has put a photo on the Internet of Giles sitting in locker 27. Has Zerret been given a new number and 27 returned to a ruckman?

You have great eye sight! I can't see the number anywhere and can barely make out Simon Madden's name in that photo.
