Who Should We Draft?

2009 was an ugly year as far as overall draft picks. Some good ones but a lot of weak players who will not play long term, was not a superdraft year imo.
Jake Melksham 10
Nat Fyfe 20
Jake Carlisle 24
In hindsight mode imagine if we had picked up Fyfe in 2009 and then Heppell in 2010? Man that would have set up our midfield depth like no other! Ah well, hindsight and all the rest.
Geepers looking at 2010 is scary. Hindsight mode again:
Steinberg 31
Jeremy Howe 33
Mitch Hallahan 38
Luke Parker 40
Alex Fasolo 45
Cam O'Shea 52
Tom McDonald 53
Paul Puopolo 66
Ben Howlett 106 (promoted rookie)

Of that's the pick of post Steinberg in that draft, then I understand our choice.
Yup. Lots of zero gamers taken early ish.
Parker hurts but he's about the only one IMHO, Howe is solid.
Keep in mind that was the hardest hit of the GC/GWS concession drafts.

The worst thing AceMan is that we were deliberating between Stein and Parker at the time....whoops!

Sorry - HAP

Speaking of Aceman, where has he been? Hasn’t posted in a while…

Is there an Adam Treleor thread yet ?

No but there's a HS article!

Pick 1 St Kilda – Christian Petracca 186cm, 92kg Mid
Pick 2 Melbourne – Angus Brayshaw 187cm, 87kg, Mid
Pick 3 Melbourne (free agent comp) - Patrick McCartin 193cm, 95kg KPF
Pick 4 GWS – Jake Lever 192cm, 84kg KPD
Pick 5 Collingwood (from BrisVegas) – Peter Wright 203cm, 102Kg KPF/Ruck

Pick  6 GWS (from Doggies) - Jayden Laverde 189cm, 82kg Mid

Pick 7 GWS (From Carlscum) – Lachlan Weller 181cm, 71kg Mid

Pick  8 Gold Coast - Sam Durdin 197cm, 89kg KP

Pick 9 Collingwood – Darcy Moore 199cm, 93kg KP

Pick 10 Geelong (via Adelaide) – Paul Ahern 181cm, 77kg Mid
Pick 11 West Coast – Jarrod Pickett 179cm, 76kg Mid
Pick 12 Richmond – Hugh Goddard 196cm, 93kg KPD

Pick 13 Freo - Caleb Marchbank 193cm, 85kg KPD

Pick 14 Adelaide (from Cats) - Liam Duggan 183cm, 76kg Mid
Pick 15 Gold Coast (comp pick from Cats)  - Jordon De Goey 187cm, 82kg Mid

Pick 16 North – hate to say it but: Nakia Cockatoo 188cm, 84 kg mid (although I really hope they go for Langford as they have enough midfield grunt)

Pick 17 the Mighty Bombers -  Jarrod Garlett 177cm, 72 kg Mid

Lightning quick, good and both sides (still a bit thin) VG good disposal and footy smarts. Luckily for us/him actually quite good defensively.

Pick 18 Sydney – Isaac Heeney (Sydney academy) 186cm, 82kg Mid

Pick 19 Carlscum – Kyle Langford 190cm, 73kg Utility

Pick 20 The Mighty Bombers. (comp pick for the corrupt Vlad lead AFL)

Pick will depend on whether we go for best available or cover our tall defender stocks:

·         Connor Menadue 188cm, 69kg Mid explosive Jet (pace)

·         Peter Bampton 182, 83kg Mid Big bodied extractor

·         Connor Blakely 186, 81kg Mid (inside)

Other mids who may be available around this pick Ellis (may drift with foot problems), Vickers-Willis and Neil-Bullen – two hyphenated midfielders!

·         Reece Mc Kenzie 196cm, 100kg KPF Plays as forward in the juniors but could convert to defense (like Hooker) with his size, positioning and spoiling capability) Other KPD options here (but we would be “paying overs”) would be Tyler Keitel or Oscar Mc Donald. Tom Lamb at 192 is a little too short

Don’t under rate Clem Smith either, lot to like about him too.

Can’t see Pies going tall at 5. Presumably GWS want to replace Boyd/Jaksch. ASAP.

I want de goey and garlett.

I think they are both a distinct possibility WD - given our KP depth though and lack of picks after 20 (and Ambrose upgrade), it wouldn't surprise me if we used one of the two picks on the best tall available even though it might be overs for that player..

Certainly see your point mate just don't want to reach for a tall if the good ones are gone which I suspect they will be. De goey is a nice size can play as a mid or as a rangey half forward, garlett is lightning and has an impressive blend of speed and endurance.
I hope the club is already starting to get in adam
Tomlinson's ear. This is the time we need to be agressive for 2016.

Clem will put someone in hospital with a shirtfront at some stage

I want de goey and garlett.

Probably unfair to judge off that one video alone but Garlett seemed to be fumbly when dealing with the footy at ground level and his decision making by foot looked ordinary.

He did seem to hit a lot of Vic players right on the chest. Pace outstanding but did seem to hurry his disposal.

Choppy!

Garlett seemed to turn over almost every kick in that highlights package, hopefully that’s not a true indication of his disposal…

we need a garlett

I would be very happy if we managed to walk away with the combination of Kyle Langford and Jordan De Goey

Langford I feel is going to be a gun. Is super skinny right now but is a terrific mark and has goal sense. Will be a tremendous third tall in the AFL I feel. Is similar to what Ambrose is but I feel has even more potential and is already further ahead in skills development. However as I said at the start, will need at least two pre-seasons to build strength.

De Goey is a safe pick and a hard working midfielder who can push forward and kick goals. I think he would fit into our forward line quite well and provide more depth for our midfield in future years.

^^ Super skinny is how Dodoro seems to like 'em.
