Basically they can’t even use weasel words to get out of the amount of absolute ■■■■ ups they made.
Based on recent history I expect the mother of all overcorrections
It’s quite pathetic isn’t it. She built a rod for her own back by coming out with these and now not too when the media has slammed the decisions and then two free kicks the next day were. It paid/paid similar to the Menzies and Draper situations what can she say without saying basically the umpires made mistakes.
She should at least have the courage and come out and say we are not going to address this from now on. Pro além is no one knows what the rushed behind rule is.
„Increase the threshold“
To what? An entire round of Anzac Day 2019 umpiring performances?
How convenient? Of course, it just happens to be EFC that cops it the worst.
Its not as though once a player puts their hands up to indicate they are not pressuring the defender that automatically means they are not allowed to tackle the very next second. They were still heading towards him until the last second & at the point where he crossed the line they were close enough to tackle within a second had he turned back into play at that point.
AFL have decided they don’t want to explain the umpiring calls for this weekend apparently
Like, they do realise we are just wanting to see how they go about lying and spinning the umpiring?
Like, they don’t actually think we are after their explanations in order so that they may impart their “wisdom” upon us?
Great to see we haven’t heard a peep out of the AFL today
You only hear from them when the Pies are involved.
How can they possibly explain an entire quarter of “errors” that absolutely effected an outcome whilst also being in bed with the betting companies?
They cannot afford to address this on so many levels.
I think the AFL have explained the situation in their own uniquely corrupt way.
It was Zack Merrett’s fault so we’ll fine him.
Might be slightly misquoting but David Zita has posted on X that the league won’t address the decisions publicly as none were at the end of the game directly impacting the result-instead they will work with the clubs involved privately. So there we go folks. That’s the end of it.
Does anyone remember a game against West Coast at The Docklands (was probably named Colonial). The umpiring was so bad that a guy threw a water bottle at the umpires during the game. My Dad, who was a stickler for the rules, actually stood up and yelled at the umpires and said that the water bottle was “justified”. I found a new respect for my Dad that day. Enough was enough.
This! I can just imagine the underlings in a meeting with her asking how do we explain this and them all getting to the point we just cant. Its just to hard and we don’t want to hurt the umpires feelings so we’ll just tell the media "were walking it back’’
Im sure the umpires Assoc have been asking for it to stop much like the players after X criticised them in that game against the lions and then apologised.
Great to see we haven’t heard a peep out of the AFL today.
No peep from Essendon re: challenging the ridiculous Merrett fine either. Just saying…
cough… pissant, gutess club… cough cough…
There we go - much better than mine
Why do they some weeks e.g. Draper dive and countless over examples? The NRL do it every week and have built in some accountability and honesty for mistakes when they are made.
The actual post

In 2002, or was it 2001?, the guy who threw it sat with his family in 2nd level, north-eastern forward pocket. He was a shocking moaner.
One day, against the Eagles, he walked out saying we were going to lose. We won…by a long way. His family were all embarrassed for him. Anyway, next year, they gave up their seats, and then we see him on the news. It was against Brisbane and IIRC it went near Chris Johnson.
Don’t remember if, and for how long, he was suspended for, but he used to regularly ring Rex Hunt. They shouldn’t have taken his calls, knowing what he’d done.
IIRC he claimed to run a restaurant in Ascot Vale. Italian gentleman.
Is anyone surprised? It’s impossible to explain such a sustained period of one-sided umpiring so the AFL decided not to address it. Pathetic cowards.
