#1 - Andy McGrath - from April 2022

Is it Ironic that our captain is now a vanilla panic merchant, defender who can play midfield.

I’m sure he’s lovely off the field as we constantly get told, and that’s great, but he does not possess the intestinal fortitude, courage and composure to warrant being regarded as a leader. And you DO NOT need to be the team’s best player to at least display this.

People were a lot more positive about the leadership capabilities of Andy McGrath when they were still in the ‘I hate Zach Merrett’ phase.

A cohort of THE FANS may have been this way

It’s a sad reflection on the state of the club and the playing list though that there are so few viable options.

Durham, maybe. Roberts potentially, soon.

Too early for any of Caddy, and certainly Sharp etc.

You can’t win. First all the fans say they want Andy McGrath as captain, but now that he is, the fans all complain about him.

Yep.
That St Kilda game is far in the rear view mirror for a lot of people.

The player who doesn’t even want to be there (Merrett), is performing better than a high majority of others who supposedly want to be there.
And we’re still trying our best to minimise what he actually does along the way.

That single entity known as THE FANS need to sort themselves out

I have no doubt he is trying. I really don’t understand how you can detest a person even if you agree he shouldn’t be captain.

It is because of what he does or doesn’t do on the field. He has absolutely zero presence onfield leadership presence, handballs to the opposition and panic kicks all if the time. He is an ok back pocket but we wasted a number pick 1 on him and he is our captain as well who is supposed to be driving high standards. Unfortunately, when it was our opportunity to have a number 1 pick we didn’t acquire a once in a generation player. Sorry but trying is not enough in an elite competition.

West Coast fans can’t stand him.

All the fans? Not this one.

He is number 1 on my trade list and has been for many years.

That is certainly untrue. “potentially some” =/= “all”.

Think we just need to be pragmatic and the club needs to be the first to venture into a different structure and utilise the strengths creatively.
Have 2 captains - 1 (McGrath for the media/corp partners and external activities)) and 1 (Archie/ Durham or someone similar - for internal footy and on-field general)
Have 2 Sr Coach/Mgr roles - 1 (Manager (Brad Scott - for all media/ corp partners/ external activities) 1 (Coach - Solly/ Hinkley or someone similar for all internal footy and tactical/selection/ match…etc)
They also need to look at the Development coaching team (as its critical especially in the next 2-3yrs)

Puss, puss, puss.

As a defender, he rarely losses a one on one.

As a running defender creating, he holds onto the ball because our players ahead of the ball can’t split and provide space for each other.

When he plays midfield he plays a team first defensive mid role and usually covers other team mates opponents,

He doesn’t kick chase and ball hunt to all parts of the ground eg Merrett.

He is system and team first - extension of the coaches, he doesn’t have many other players following his lead because those players at 6-10 years of experience have all come through a club void of direction for there careers Parish, Merrett, Langford, Redman, Wright, Ridley.

How dare you

don’t you remember that good game he played against a poor stkilda side…that we lost?

To those who go to the games, does he actually direct any of our other defenders to position correctly or is he as mute as all of our other senior players seem to be?
