#10 Isaac Kako

Clubs will bid on him if they want him. We obviously rated Kako as a top 8 selection hence warranting a trade pre draft to ensure he is ours.

Same reason Ashcroft will attract a bid in the top 5 and Lombard will get bid on too and brisbane and the suns traded accordingly.

As for criticism well it probably needs to be balanced over 2/3 years not one.

I banged on plenty about not liking it here. But thats more about different ways of achieving the same outcome.
(Get Kako - but unlike brisbane and the suns live trade if forced - because we want to hit the open draft still and 9 is a great live option over back end choices)

But who knows clubs have to do a lot of work on a draftee before considering him.

The dons would know what clubs have done the work on Kako and if they were above us you would be nervous. Specially the saints with multiple picks.

And holding plenty of picks means they can go to work on players in the 2nd and third round range to try find a gem or too

I believe Lovett’s form after he left the AFL has been a little more problematic.

At his best for Essendon he was pretty special.

Ultimately I think Rosa handled the draft position pretty well. Mitigated risk about managing Kako bids, set up a decent number of picks despite not having a bevy of talent desiring exit (or eager teams wanting our players), and has set us up for a good draft as well in 2025.

We will get our man, and hopefully one or two nice little surprises along the way.

I don’t agree with that. Our trade doesn’t mean we rated him top 8 at all. It means we wanted 3 first rounders instead of 2. The only way we got that was by making the trade and taking Kako. It means we rate him as a first rounder.

Remember his first game against Adelaide?

Took them on and did well.

I thought we really had one after that.

Well we still really only have 2 first rounders.

Melbournes f1 in
Pick 9 out.

We just got a lot of change thrown in that we didnt need to raise some other way.(trading out more capital)

Kako is called a first rounder but as you say who says he will cost that. Noone knows for certain until he is bid on.

It only logically makes sense that for our list, kako is top 8 in our eyes.

If there are 9 or more talents we rate higher that would benefit us more.

Then you keep pick 9 to get one of those footballers.

Not really.

We have Melbourne F1, our F1 and Kako which we get with a bunch of 2nd 3rd and 4th round picks

Don’t get him started again.

Then everything we have done since Kako was 12 has all been for ■■■■!

I wasn’t referring to top 10. More so pick 11 onwards with the teams that have multiple picks ie Tigers, Giants

Huh?

Haha

Nah im cool. I am more than 200% sure that Rosa and O’brien know more than some fan from the peanut gallery.

And trades are always line ball - its got to work for Melbourne as much as it does us.

They would have weighed things up with draft intel and a strategy.

On the surface though im pretty happy to put out that i would have preferred to see a different strategy and want that opinion to be proved wrong

Don’t know but I bet they’re in the top 10 of Cal’s predictions, maybe top 5.

The type of haircut that going to cost you an earlier bid :joy::joy:

Bo Allan and Tobie Travaglia

Neither is :joy: they’re 11 & 12.

Cal has put out a fair few now, rotating through a large portion of players. Usually he goes with someone who may be topical for performance (riser in stock usually), controversy (charlie curnow style), or injury (potential slider).

Kako is topical off the back of the trade period, Bo Allan stocks rose since his last one I believe (he had a strong wafl finals run), and Travaglia had a good 2km at the combine and hadn’t featured yet I dont think.
