Archie Perkins was taken at pick 9 in 2020
Tom Green at pick 10 2019
We most definitely should be expecting a lot more from Perko than what he offers.

But it’s becoming clear the 2020 draftees are suffering from COVID. Blaming Dodoro for taking Perkins is only valid if he was obviously the wrong choice. You need to compare him to the other options available.
Trade him while he has some value. This club needs to wake up and open its eyes.
You shouldnt be expecting players to be as good as Tom Green at the same age, he is a freak. Perkins is 12th for average player rating among his age group, it would be great if he was #1 but it shouldnt be expected.
I’ll defend him a little
How many times yesterday was he used as the kick to person out of the back line Al playing the davey CHF
Too many times and this is the fault of the coach for not having the correct structure players in the team!
Every time gws came out of there back half they had hogan or Ricardo hitting the ball up
Hogan even lead up kicked it forward then ran forward and tackled zerk and won a free
Why didn’t we bring Wright up the ground …
Why did always seem to have 2 talls together spoiling each other
Now why was Perkins in the middle when a guy like setterfield is in the magoos … yeah they will say it’s good experience but he’s not a midfielder in fact he’s lucky to be in the best 22 on current form
He needed a break a few weeks ago
Correct.
He’s not a mid, stop ■■■■■■■ playing him there. He’s a forward, teach him to play there and teach him to defend it in the forward line.
Teach him to defend at VFL level. If he won’t, he doesn’t play.
No room for him the back line in the VFL… that’s where forwards go to find there from lol
He’s a Pick 9.
They don’t all turn out like Bont.
Sometimes you get a Paddy Dow, or an O’Brien.
Good solid players are required, and i’m confident Archie will get better.
He is having some challenges transitioning into the midfield.
Reality is it may not be his best position, but we need to find out.
So we shouldn’t be expecting our player to be as good as Green? Why not?
I don’t think he is the problem. He’s been alright this year, and has X factored a few times. I don’t think he’s been shown up by any of his draft year. But as with all of them, he needs a harder defensive edge.
It was very obvious in Tom Green’s first 10-20 games that he was going to be an Elite inside mid in the comp.
Archie wont reach that level.
Certainly not as a midfielder.
And i see that as a problem, we don’t seem to have an ability to pick elite on any line and we are always being told to not expect our players to be as good. as players taken at the same level.
Because its unrealistic, if you hold all our players to that standard 99% of them will dissapoint you.
Someone needs to rough his hair up
Zaharakis kicked 30+ goals in his third season and won the best & fairest. We wish Perkins was playing to that level.
Right, so once again we should not expect our players to be elite, it is unrealistic.
Noted. Some thought dumping here from me (apologies for length of post) -
For all the flack that gets flung Dodoros way, I don’t think many other list managers would’ve selected differently than us. Choosing tall options at the time, did make sense IMO.
Beyond our selections, Brunh, Ollie Henry and Holmes have been stand outs - Brunh being the only realistic choice in that area that he could have selected.
The more pertenent issue is our overall player management (development, fitness etc)
I’ve never been of the opinion that Perkins is a mid. If I were to evaluate him as a mid I’m not dazzled. As a HF, he looks good though. Cox and Reid are a concern to me however.
Because Green was rated a viable #1 option but fell due to being an academy pick. Like Daicos. Or Ashcroft not going #1.
