With Tayte, I reckon this is his last chance. Has to be.
I think all his injuries have done damage to his body over the years which has also impacted his confidence.
New coach, no fletch and this being his last chance might impact how he approaches this up coming season.
The team has insurance in tall defenders so there is not too much pressure on him. The talent is there and maybe he has lasted longer than he should have. However, you never know with some players. Things might just work out for him.

if he plays it means we're having a stinker of a season.
yep.
TBH the guy shouldn’t still be on the list, but he is. If he plays any games in the 1’s it means we are in all sorts of trouble from a playing group point of view.
Really? What is your logic? We lost Carlisle and Fletcher in the one hit. The only potential replacement prior to the draft was Stein and he was not considered “up to it”. Surely with this in mind and not knowing what we’d get in the draft it would be expected rather than bizarre / a surprise?

All the best Tayte!
Or. . . He’s under more pressure because his career is on its last legs

If we could have known we would get both brown and Hartley I think Pears would have been let go.
This
Sure. Think another year ahead. Jimmy Gwilt is 29 now and at the end of next year will be 30. Tayte will be 26. If Tayte plays well next year, he may well survive and Gwilt will retire.
I personally think people on this site have short memories. In his 2 games this year he averaged 16 disposals and 4.5 marks. In 2013 he played 11 games and averaged 17.6 disposals and 5.9 marks. As a KPD defender these are not bad at all.
However, keep going on about how cooked he is and how amazing it is he was extended when we’d just lost 2 KPD’s.

those are good stats that contribute nothing to the conversation.

Sorry - He’s cooked and I have no idea why he’s still on the list. Does that work better for you? (I’m having an opposite day as my kids might say).
Pear’s contact is essentially a one year insurance policy that Essendon has taken out in the unlikely event that 5 or 6 other defenders all succumb to injury.

And?
The blokes he was lining up on averaged 22 touches, 9 marks, 6 I50s, 3 assists and 3 shots on goal.
There may or may not be reasons that I can’t see why you’d keep him, and he wouldn’t have been on those guys for the whole game - but he was soundly beaten both games he played this year.
Personally, if he’s going to make it back at all (and odds are stacked against), it’s as a rebounding 3rd tall defender. He just plays too loose too often.
