#20 Jackson Merrett

I picked that up, but there are a lot on here that say shitt like trade Zacka 6 games into the season, then back peddle so fast it’s mind blowing once he hits form.

I’m not one of those hysterical types, I stick with players through thick & thin, but I can’t stand soft players & Jerrett is soft & hears footsteps, no two ways about it,

I think overall our list is getting to a good standard though.

We have a couple of likely candidates for delisting next season but hopefully they can surprise us and provide good depth.

Amazing all three survived the delist and rookie list route.

Maybe they senior listed long so they can delist him and re rookie next year

You love that move

He works hard defensively, he runs all day and he can kick OK. Which is the way the club is heading in regards to recruitment.

He’s not great but he’s useful, in an inoffensive way.

Before I PM, can you elaborate a touch more on; " I KNOW he won’t make it"

I’ve always thought he would make it. I just don’t think he will make it at EFC. Playing him off a HBF FFS its like the go to position for everyone. If you can make it there you will make it anywhere. He should be in a forward pocket or a wing. He is a goal kicker.

That sounds suspiciously like he is too vanilla. Be careful HAP you never know who might be reading.

He’s played 54 forgettable games for us, he won’t make it to 60.

If he plays more than 6+ games & can average 20+ disposals in those 6+ games in 2018, how’s that for an easy bet?

I’ve always maintained that he has the clean hands and quick hand balling skills of an excellent inside midfielder. But he’s built like an Half back flanker.

Very lucky

If you get 50 games out of any player taken past pick 50 you’ve done very well. Hell, if they debut that’s not a bad effort. Our first pick is pick 48.

Pretty simple, really.

It’s actually the opposite, players are often moved to the HBF because they have some nice attributes but they can’t quite make it work in another area of the ground.

Having said that while I was okay with them trying him at half back I’ve always said if he makes it, it will be as a high half forward/winger. Also doesn’t have the forward craft to be a AFL standard FP.

That’s also true of Merrett though I’d say. 50 games from here on would be very surprising, and just playing a game would be a step up from this year.

Not completely true - there was that huge game early in the season in 2014 (35 possies) which made me think he was on the rise and promptly traded him into my supercoach team where he proceeded to stink it up for the rest of the season. As a result I have hated him ever since.

He broke the number 1 rule.

Never ■■■■ with a mans supercoach team.

The decision of whether to retain Merrett and Long rather than draft at the back end, taking mature age guys who you would only need to contract for 1yr, could boil down to a comparison between Merrett and Boyse, and between Long and Hind.
While some on here think Boyse and Hind will be drafted, I think it is unlikely, and they would be available late in the ND.
Hind and Long offer similar attributes and are similar age and weight. You could make an argument for either of them, but it would be a pretty close call.
Boyse probably has more to offer than Merrett IMO.
The main risk would be that they could be gone before our 4th and 5th picks.
Of course Boyse and HInd are only two of many possible mature age draftees we might have gone for.
