Sounds like we’ve already invited him to train, pre-draft.
We may at some point drop a word in his ear and tell him ‘sorry mate, we’re not going to redraft you’ at which point he’ll presumably go find a lower league team to sign with though.

Hasn’t he done that. Or was that for cricket?
Also a portion of the rookie’s salary isn’t included in the salary cap, from memory $80k last I checked.
Tom Fields, Fraser Thurlow, Sammy Dunnell!!
Harking (harkening?) back to early-mid 90s drafts when guys would win a country/suburban B&F, get drafted, and be packed off back there by January.
It’d be fun.
Probably wouldn’t work, but it would be fun.
Bit in that I think.
I’d also suggest a heck of a lot of small forwards kicking 80 in suburban footy are playing as de facto CHF/FFs and get it kicked to them 10 times a match.
They might not actually be the guys who’d fit best as an AFL crumber.
That’s essentially how Cupido and Moorcroft played for a zillion years after dropping out of the big leagues. I don’t think the skill set necessarily translates.
Not to say there’s not guys in suburban footy who could make the jump. Just that that might not be the best way to go about it.
And you could rule out about 90% of leagues while you were at it.
There’s a big, big difference between VAFA premier & Oodnadatta 3rds.
EDIT: Think about it this way. Durham was 6 months into VFL when he was drafted. McDonagh 12 months. (Isaac Smith similar). It’s not completely ridiculous to suggest guys can make that leap. But list managers would need to be brave. There’s lots of suburban/country guns who don’t thrive at state level.
That’s true, I’ve seen a lot of really good “short forwards” who can kick 100 goal seasons in minor leagues, but they play an old fashioned Dunstall roll. Good lead up players with strong hands, that would be useless at AFL level. They don’t play small forward, that’s usually an up and coming junior player.
Which was also supposedly the Cahill thing in juniors. Clearing out the 50 for him. Not gunna happen in the AFL.
There is a guy from North Preston causing a bit of conversation on this board.
How good are the dons legends? Crikey I love this club. Just saying. Hope everyone is enjoying their Tuesday
Because there were two players available you wanted left, and you wanted the better one to get to you. They didn’t, so you’re disappointed/seething/etc. That doesn’t mean you think that player was worth two third round picks.
To be honest, I think the issue is that with 3 picks to go there were three players they wanted quite a bit still on the board (Jones, Taylor, Draper) and so they got excited that one would make it. Then none did. So they were disappointed.

@Row87 I reckon you’d get on well with @carrotsalad.
Hobbs but it’s close
Alistair Lord on his first day of training. Real footage!
The part about Harrison Jones wanting to be a part of the interview process was very interesting for me. I guess it shows the extent of his commitment to the club and drive to influence it. Good on him for doing it.
Yep. Great to the club for making it happen too. Jones is going to be a great long term player.
Sets an excellent example for others. Not everyone is going to be wired the same way to be comfortable or want to do these sorts of things. But it certainly helps drive success in organisations to have these types in your team.
Didn’t Jones also call the club prior to his draft and request they trade up to draft him?
Literally called Dodoro himself from memory
