2021 trade spec (Part 4)

Not much - Hill is like 21 and Rosas is 20. I was just making the point that he’s played more footy partly cos he is older. I personally think he’s much better than Rosas.

I’d also be happy if we brought the 2022 1st into this years draft. We’re hard to place next year though 8-12 is most likely but 5-15 also possible.

Fair enough! Rosas staying put at the Suns anyway so not like we’re missing out on him to somebody else. Hope we get Hill and he keeps on improving!

Jayden Stephenson (with a history of similar dumb behaviour, but talent) was traded for essentially pick 26, while younger. Everyone considered that trade to be a massive loss for
Collingwood.

I just don’t think 25 + 30 can be viewed as a win, given those circumstances leading to the time of the trade

he has more exposed from than malcolm rosas jnr.

and is more ready made as a afl player.

rosas could have got 3rd rounder likely,

Hill might cost more.

I’m not sure what to think about the Bobby Hill news…

On one hand he fills a need. He will be best 22. Perfect age.

But on the other hand, it’s his cost. To me he looks like a solid average player.

Given he is contracted I believe GWS will want a 2nd round pick. Do you lock that trade in knowing you get a guaranteed best 22 role player? Or do you use the 2nd round pick on a player with elite potential?

I know he is still young but my gut feel is that we could get better value with third, fourth rounders & rookie picks. Stengle, Jarrod Cameron type dirt cheap signings could give similar output without the need to offload a 2nd Rd pick. I’m not sure…

From what I’ve seen, hill has class. As does stengle. Either would suit us as back up for tippa or potentially replacement for smith. It seems our culture is on the right track. Either would be very handy and we keep our first pick of 11/13. The talk of trying to get deeper In the draft is realised with either of those players.

Pull the trigger.

need to also remember that Stringer was the number 1 player in the comp in the second half of the year.

That’s got nothing to do with the circumstances and available information in 2017

That’s hardly a fair comp. Stringer kicked 56 goals and made AA in 2015 and then 42 in a premiership team in 2016. Stephenson for all his talent hasn’t kicked 40 goals in a season once. Even Stringer ā€˜dropping off’ the year he got traded would have equalled Stephenson’s second best year in front of goal.

I get your point about leverage but if a player with Stringer’s resume and age came up for trade now the expectation would be two firsts. The fact we gave up none was a great result.

You mean the information that he was a premiership player, All Australian and had won his club goal kicking 3 times

And your comparing his value to Jayden ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  Stephenson?

Who was suspended for 10 games for basically match fixing and was traded in a fire sale from a complete basket case

A complex Bobby Hill fantasy that I’ve put together:

ESSENDON BEFORE = 11+51+56 + Future 2nd + Future 4th
ESSENDON AFTER = 13+51+53 + Future 3rd + Hill

Then offer (51+53+Future 3rd) to STK for their Future 2nd (giving them the NGA points they need).

We go into the 2022 draft with ESS 1st + STK 2nd + GWS 3rd.

We (potentially) take just one pick in this 2021 draft, upgrade 2 rookies…but we can change tack again, if an opportunity presents.

How about something like this, who says no here?
Essendon: Bobby Hill and FRE pick 22
GWS: Rory Lobb
Fremantle: ESS future first and GWS pick 53

Stringer had a gambling addiction, was leaving training to sleep with a 16 year old, and wasn’t fit. He wasn’t a saint either

Why do you think he was up for trade lol

I reckon we might say no to that - we would probably prefer to just do the future 2nd and keep the future first rather than get 22.
