2021 trade spec (Part 4)

Sure, we could get a Daniel Elstone, Rod Crowe, Aaron Rodgers, Tom Davidson or Mark Powell who were all drafted 20-30 in one if the strongest drafts ever…

No but the strategy should be getting as many high picks as possible and filling needs via free agency, third rounders and below. Guys like dunstan, finlayson etc. for next to nothing that improve the list immediately in areas of need at a low cost.

Grew up with Tom Davidson. Was a gun junior who had a ■■■■ tonne of bad luck and never progressed.

Didn’t he play for Fitzroy?

So why go to the draft and pick an 18yo small forward for 2nd rd pick when we can trade for a 21yo with the same value pick?

Keep in mind we used the draft to pick mozzie with a 2nd round. It didnt work out. He is 21yo now. Hill takes his spot and we dont have to develop him for 3 years like we would for an 18yo

Makes you wonder with Mozzie, whether there should be long term injury compensation for draft picks. Like if a player quits before their rookie deal is up the club gets that pick back.

Unfortunately dem are the breaks. Sucks for the player too.

He was always gonna be a risk whether it was the pull of home or the demands of being a professional athlete.

seriously like we need any more draft compensation.

I’m yet to hear the club come out and say we’re after Bob Hill we might not want him.

Because we don’t have a second round pick this year. So we will have to give up something decent to acquire one or downgrade other picks when trying to bring in a number of young players through the draft over a 2 to 3 year period.

Plus we won’t have any picks next year if we wanna use some for king.

Haha yeah. Would mean the first round would be 50 picks long. Just a pipe dream.

what if giants offloading hill gives them the cap space for lobb.

i mean given mozzie was worth a second rounder, we shouldn’t be upset with losing a future second.

but if dodoro can do it for a third rounder then awesome.

We dont need the 2nd future next year, it will be absorbed for points the daveys if we keep it (we can use 3rd and 4ths for points instead). Best to trade it. Keep our first round picks this year and next.

Nino, please.

We should bid on him with a Deposit limit.
If we can bring him in without severely hampering this years draft hand it is good for the future.

Where did ‘Bobby’ come from if his name is Ian??

Is this some kind of Lance ‘Buddy’ Franklin type scenario?

True story. Read it on one of his draft profiles.

If we end up with Hill then we are trading back into the 2018 draft that we originally traded out of. And it’s a draft that is looking pretty poor outside of the stacked 1st round.

Hill effectively replaces Mozzie like-for-like. It’s a question of cost, ideally we work it so that it’s essentially downgrading some picks without actually losing any in totality.
