2021 trade spec (Part 4)

Essendon: Bobby Hill & Pick 13
GWS: Our 2022 First Round Pick & a 2021 Third Round Pick

Bobby Hill, two 1st round picks for this draft & a 3rd round pick.

We also get to keep our 2nd & 3rd round picks for next year.

Which means we can match any bids for The Davey Twins.

I like that deal, assuming we don’t bottom out, we could finish with both Rachele and Nasiah

GWS aren’t going for a 3rd rounder and a first round flip for Bobby Hill.

Far from convinced on Hill. Lacks conviction in his finishing. Actually reminds me a fair bit of Jetta around goals.

How did they let go of Finlayson for 3rd rounder? I will be ■■■■■■ if they ask for more from us for Bobby.

Finlayson is 26 next year, this year is the 3rd season GWS have put him on the trade table within the last 5 years, he is unprofessional, he is a flog and he is not in their best 22.

Hill is 21, and in their best 22.

Not even close in terms of value.

Sure Bobby Hill hasn’t exactly tore the competition apart, but I really rate Rutten’s ability to get the best out of players. GWS don’t play an attacking brand of football so it doesn’t really suit small forwards.

We thrive on attacking football, pressure and chaos around goals. I honestly believe Hill (and Stengle) can be 30 goal forwards in our system. They certainly have the latent talent.

Meeting Norff. No wonder he now wants to come to us. Thanks heaps cellar dwellers.

Would our two picks in the 50’s be enough for Hill? We definitely need a small forward but you can’t give up to much for someone who hasn’t really done much.

Agree. If a draft goes deep, a better chance.

With Covid wiping out 2 years of development this year it is a crap shoot. Next years crop, is unknown.

What’s to say they aren’t trying to do that?

Finlayson wanted to go home to SA.

He definitely fills a need. I have no idea how good he is or can be. I’ve hardly noticed him.

You’d think he would be a very good bet for a round 1 start and probably to hold that spot.

If you can get that with a second round pick any which way, you do it IMO.

Everyone keeps saying trade our first pick next year we don’t need it, but so far I haven’t heard anyone say one of the Davey boys is going to go top 10, so if we finish 8th or even a little worse, wouldn’t we be best to keep our first, get a good kid and then use other picks to get the Davey boys?

There’s now way we’ll use a future first this year. We’re fairly certain to have a crack at King next year and that wouldn’t leave us with enough to trade.

If you believe that is the case then we won’t be trading our future second either

Imo it isn’t to do with the Daveys at all. More our desire to have multiple 1st round picks this year. This is a way we can do it. If we want a first round pick next year we can trade back in if we want

Why can’t we trade our second for next year if we want King?

Because we would need to trade our first and future first to get King. If we have traded our second for next year in the pursuit of Hill then we have no 1st or 2nd round pick. That’s against the rules right?

I guess we could try and bring our 2023 second forward if we use a future second for Hill, allowing us to pursue King with 2 firsts (if that’s what we want to do)
