Will I believe what happened next?
Apparently who Essendon choose at #5 will shock you.
Tsatapou
Into the Tsatasphere
It would make post-draft night a lot easier.
Take Phillipou at Pick 5.
Give him the #5 to wear.
He becomes the best player in the league.
The End.
I don’t know. We’d then need to research to come up with the player that Dodoro should have taken before declaring our drafting a complete failure. That sounds like hard work. Much easier to have the alternative sorted out prior to the night…
We simply must take both players, no other alternative.
If Essendon calls out “Tsapoustas” we could get both players together. Genius!
edit: kinda what @chester posted before… lol
Just remembering that there was that SANFL game with crazy tackle numbers this year. How comparable are SANFL 18s tackles counts vs Nat Champs or NAB league tackle numbers? Equivalent generally?
That game was in awful wet and rain conditions.
No-one’s yet suggested that we trade up to pick 1 to take Phillipou….surprising, really

That is your cue Nino.

Historically, has there really been any material difference in value between players taken at 1, and any other top 5 pick?
Yes.
It’s interesting, but with exception of Brownlow votes, I don’t see that as a conclusive “yes”.
More likely (ever so slightly) to get a 200 gamer at pick 2. And the same likelihood to get an All Aus.
I wonder if the Brownlow votes stat might be affected by the “type” at pick 1 vs 2?

Why cant pick 5 be Tsatas/Phillipou/McKenzie, that way we’ll get three players.
If North draft the Pou I will blow Arden St up.
In: Hawks 1st 2022, Hawks 2nd 2023, Hawks 3rd 2022
Out: Ess 1st 2023, Ess 2nd 2022, Ess 3rd 2023.
Gives us Davey points, take Pou and Tsa this year. Finish top 8 next year to screw Hawks over!

On average pick 1s play more games though and the difference between the top 2 and 3-5 is obvious. Its a small sample size so you would expect some quirks but the trend is clear that early picks are better then later ones as expected.
