2022 Draft Watch (Part 2)

Do Sydney have any Academy players that GWS can bid on? Keep them occupied so they don’t go after Davey

we don’t mind if swans pick him at 27

We would trade the pick though if we got a bid, so another team would take pick 25. So wouldn’t really help West Coast. Might depend too on whether WC has any intel on who Ess likes at 25. If it isn’t someone they would take then it may be in their interest for Ess to take pick 25 rather than trade it to someone else who might like the same player WC might be interested in.

That’s a fair point actually! I had the GWS situation from last night in my mind where Sydney bid on Rowston and the Giants literally just matched it with their next pick which helped the Swans get Konstanty.

I wonder at that point in the draft whether we’d get any teams willing to trade us a future 2nd rounder for it or if it’s just that bit far into this draft where clubs couldn’t justify that given the relative strengths of this year vs next year’s draft.

Picks start rolling at 7.30 again tonight?

doesn’t look like it.
expect Bids on Cooper Harvey and Alwyn Davey inside 40
Versatile Gippsland Power prospect Cooper Vickery, who’s tied to Hawthorn’s NGA, could also be around the Pick 40 mark, while the Demons are closely monitoring the interest in their NGA prospect Finn Emile-Brennan – a damaging wingman/half-back player with lovely kick.

Essendon will be hopeful NGA prospect Anthony Munkarra doesn’t attract a bid until later in the draft, or they can pick him up as a Category B rookie.

Other players that should come into consideration after Pick 40 – possibly in the rookie draft – include Jayden Davey (Essendon father-son), Shadeau Brain (Brisbane academy), Josh Draper (Fremantle NGA), Jasper Scaife (Fremantle NGA), Conrad Williams (Fremantle NGA), Ted Clohesy (Geelong NGA), Nick Madden (Giants academy), Nathan Barkla (Port Adelaide NGA) and Tyrell Dewar (West Coast NGA)

I’m loving some of the names this year, Shadeau Brain, Steely Green…

Apparently they have a f/s candidate next year expected to go second round- Luke Mcabe’s boy I think. Could be why they are not so bothered to trade out and perhaps accumulate some lower picks to match a bid.

Is Keeler a realistic pick for us at 25, or is it going too early with better prospects available?

Yes.

I agree with this, although I’d add that when Phillips finishes up, even if we have an 19-21 year old, we might still look around for a workhorse depth ruck as cover.

Austin Lucy was the AA U18 Full Back.

We delisted him after one year. Being the best or near best in a draft class doesn’t actually mean you’re any good.

Too soon

So…

I’m a bit confused here.

If the Daveys or at least one of them are rated so highly, which pick/s are we planning on using for them? Just wanting to understand this. Is this Dodo thinking no one will touch them and we can have our cake and eat it too so to speak?

Hayes is no Lucy :joy:

Not really. If you include the Davey’s as on our list already, we currently have two free list spots. One of which may be used on pick #25. The other may be used on Munkara if available, or if he goes undrafted we can add him to the Cat B list and take a different player as a rookie or an SSP pick (after promoting someone).

No, you cannot delist anyone from this point.

We have 25, 49, 54, and 59. If the next two picks in the draft are bids on the Daveys, that’s enough points to match the bids.

Thank you.
So if we use 25 on someone else then say 26 is used to bid on one of them will those remaining picks be enough for both? Or can you use a future pick against that?
