2023 FF Original Discussion Thread

We didn’t deserve the luck this week but we’ll take it.

What happened to the bench scores?
Everyone drew?

The Good…

  • Team selection is elite so far this year. Strategic subs haven’t hurt me and they are usually left on the bench. Three strategic subs this week was tough to meandre through.
  • Choice at team selection is fantastic. Five emergencies this week. Only 3 players from my list not named on Thursday. No injuries and one suspended player due to come back this weekend.
  • 2-2 is a better start to the season than expected. And the close loss after having 16 scorers to Allblack in Round 1 could have had me at 3-1.

The Average…

  • It was looking great on Sunday night. Monday was putrid. An easy win became too close for comfort. A 23 point win in the end.
  • Only the one tonne (Marshall). Similar performance to Round 1 from the team.
  • I have @Awesome_Scotty coming up this week. It’s a 50/50 game considering I have a higher For than him this season.

The Ugly…

  • Three strategic subs equals lots of low scores. Outside of that I still have four sub-50 scorers which is tough to carry. Three of them are in the backline.
  • Ned Reeves scoring has been very surprising. I didn’t expect Lloyd Meek to take time away from him. At the moment, I can’t stick him on the bench, so he’s stuck in my 18 for the short term. If Mitchell plays him as the full time ruck that he is, he’ll be fine. He’s not a forward with second ruck minutes kind of player.
  • Riley Bonner and Harry Cunningham’s form. I’m surprised Bonner has been dropped, but once Farrell took his spot as well as the JHF & Jnr Rioli pick ups, he’s found it tough to hold his spot in all the shuffling. Harry Cunningham has been a major disappointment so far. Hopefully he picks his game up.

21 point loss in the end, injuries and a couple of under performances proved crucial in the end. If Pickett kicked straight, we win. If Lynch didn’t get injured, we probably win.

Our depth probably isn’t good enough to cope without Kennedy, Wright, Burton, Lynch, Soldo etc , but there were some good signs from Ralphsmith, Rivers, Clarke and even Tucker /Howe got useful scores. Need to stop picking up injuries though. At full strength, this side is ok.

I lost to the team in second place by ninety points.

I’m not being silly about it, I know we chalked up a very low score, I know my opponent had issues with his squad too, but injuries aside, if two of my guys weren’t suspended this week I think I’d probably have come away with the win.

Deep in my heart, I know I’m on the right track.
In the same way as the guy on Good Morning Vietnam knew he was funny.

I didn’t line up this squad for how they’d perform in the first four weeks of the season.

Trust the process, indeed.

In what has been a terrible season, this week has been the terriblest. Three scores over 70, and 10 under 50. Played short for the first time this season as well. Scored 827. I’m not expecting much from a team that is made up of 1-3 year players, but sheesh.

Dunlop very stiff to lose to me.

A couple of subbed/sub players and key players missing, but still hung on.

Docherty out for 4-6 weeks will hurt!!

The good

  • decent scores across all lines
  • consistent scoring by my under 25s
  • getting closer to an 80ppg average
  • round score was good enough to have beaten 13 other teams

The bad

  • poor selection cost me another 100 points or so
  • to many sub 60 scores

a win!!

Bit of a rocky start to the season but building just a little now.

Round 2 was diabolical… 1077 and the lowest score of the round.
Round 3, 1202 and a close loss
Round 4, 1308 which wins more than it loses this round. Pretty good score with 17 players and 4 scoring less than 50.

Hoping that I’ve managed to get Chayce Jones just in time

Injuries just seem to keep following this team, poor Tom McCartin came in as my LTI replacement only to get a head knock at a lowly 10.

Which fly will drop next who only knows! The way things are tracking poor Harris Andrews is paying $1.20 currently

One day I’ll eventually select the right players on the right weeks, I’m yet to make a correct decision on any bench/fringe player call

Glad to push 1600 with 17.5 players, a rag tag bunch of forwards and no one in my mids going over 100. Myrmidons wouldn’t go away for most of the weekend before I was able to pull away late, but is building a nice squad.

Hopefully Mitch Duncan can continue that fantasy pig form for the rest of the year and it will be nice to have Rich and Membrey available in the next week or so and Billings ideally not long after.

Richmond are being somewhat non committal on time frames, but can I LTI Tom Lynch, @Dunlop ?

Second highest for the round with two short, I’ll take it.

Hoping tog eat a few back from injury this week and then maybe recycle the FA’s!

Yep. FYI, he’s listed as long-term internally.

Can I LTI Nankervis @Dunlop?

Medium-term internally (4-6 weeks), so you can, but its up to you.

I’ll LTI McGovern, if that’s okay, @Dunlop.
West Coast vice-captain Jeremy McGovern and high-flying forward Liam Ryan are set for months on the sidelines

FAs have been processed.

Best of luck to all teams for the upcoming Gather Round.
Somehow…
Kayne Turner has escaped being delisted this week.

Generally, FA is just shuffling the deck chairs . But reasonably happy to bring Ned Long in to the fold. Hawthorn need to make some changes and the kid is a bit of a tough nut so a small chance of one for the future.

Mansell joins our crop of generally not good enough but might get a game due to injury depth coverage players.

Much hinges for us on getting Kennedy back. And Lyons is banging on the door in the ressies but I think Fagan will stick with the winning lineup. Burton back from suspension will also be helpful. Miller Bergman was a late out with illness, he might be back too, so at least we should have 18 plus some bench cover.
