Harry Morrison was available?
I need to pay better attention to keepers lists…

Edit…
He’s a mid only. Not good enough for a spot there.

Don’t we need 7 mids??

Yeah. But I carried that many after keepers. So not a high priority for me.
I thought he was a defender. Still getting used to the positions of certain players.

Sorry for the slight delay.
I wasn’t sure if I could afford to go slightly more ‘prospective’ or someone who is more likely to get games.
Dylan Williams should be decent for my backline.

Yep, and I have a feeling there’ll be some severe donut problems this season. There’s so many mids that are far from certain to get games each week.

I was wondering when Archie would get taken.

I don’t think he’s that far off selection. Can definitely find the ball.

I think there will be donut problems because we’re used to being able to carry LTIs pretty much for free. Now we need to hold that within the 30. And that’s before we get to the inevitable increase in concussion protocols to deal with.
It’s going to be tougher to hold on to a player who is developing at lower levels than it was last year. And you certainly can’t hold on to too many of them.

So the way the list is built needs to be different to previous years. And I suspect there’ll be problems striking the right balance.
Hopefully the position changes that occur through the season help smooth out some of the problems.

Yep, I could see him getting a game in the first part of the year.

Definitely going to be a challenge.
Could be a good thing, though.

I didn’t say too much as I was out of the league then back in again, but I think the new structure of 5,7,5,1 is only going to increase the amount of donut problems.

I can only speak for my previous drafting, but I’d go half the picks speculative and the other half were a mix of developing and could get games vs staples that could be expected to get games.
I definitely screwed the balance up in 2022 and suffered plenty of donuts. Last year was a better balance.
With the change of rules, I’m not sure I’ll strike the right balance straight away.

R1 we’ll definitely have some donut issues with the draft running past round zero selection. It will render the first week of free agency redundant.

I definitely had to rethink some of my strategy coming into this season, cutting some young prospects I’d have hung onto otherwise.
Then taking guys like SPP and Ross over youth during my rebuild, that definitely wasn’t on the cards end of last season

Not necessarily. Most of the picks so far aren’t assured they’ll even make it to emergencies.
The idea of the first FAs is to pick up any shortfalls in your list build so you can get a full team together for round 1.
The advantage of it running past it is you’ll get a good idea of 8 teams bench and emergencies from opening round and get a good understanding of the pecking order whilst drafting.
We should also get a good injury list today or tomorrow which will also help assess how far away players actually are.
In the past we get that info at the end of the draft and can’t do much with it until the beginning of round 2.

So whilst FA prior to round 1 may be subdued, the opportunity is there to fill your team for round 1. I’m sure coaches will weigh up whether to delist a non playing player and risk a donut for a low scorer.

Same here. I wanted to hold onto Cook, Bytel and Parnell. But they aren’t getting games soon. And in the past I would have delisted Markov and was close to delisting Bonner. I also wouldn’t have traded for players like Florent or Bergman in the past.
You need to adjust the way you build the list both through the draft and during free agency.

I’m wondering if having another trade period prior to mid-season would help give coaches another avenue to keep adjusting their list.

The fact that Boak was on my radar probably says a lot.
Investing in youth, sure, but want to field 18 every week.

Ordinarily I would not have thought about taking Boak now but here we are. The effect on list building has kind of forced my hand.

Nice pick with Mannagh he was one I was thinking of here along with Boak.
