2023 trade talk (Part 3)

I haven’t seen a lot of Gresham tbh,two questions

Is he quick?
Is he a great tackler?

I don’t think Gresham is a medium forward. He’ll be one of the shortest players in our team.

I’d add: ability(knack/nous) to position themselves well at contests for the fall of the ball.

We’re constantly out of position, be it front/side or back of contests. Be that forward line or around the ground.

Frustrating that for a team that likes the kick it long to a pack option we don’t set up well for it.

Gresham isnt worth a first rounder nor what sainters are paying him now.

If we were to take his salary on and pay for shiel to play for them damn right we would want a first round pick in return imho.

Hes decent but just that.

Hes an upgrade on 200-300k footballers we have now that arent really worth what we pay em.

Firstly, if you are going to crap on player at least learn how to spell his name.
Secondly, Menzie scored more goals from less games than Gresham.
Thirdly, Menzie would get a game in another team after his first full year as he showed a lot.

The shortest if Snelling goes.

Autocorrect…

You’re one of those deluded supporters who over rate players just because they were a red sash.

Bit of a ■■■■ attitude there.

Menzie showed a lot in my view, but just wasn’t afforded the consistency to show value. Hence why another club wants him.

I did this in another thread, but conceptually

Stringer Jones Perkins
Menzie Wright Langford

Wright, Langford and Stringer can obviously be potent. Jones is a structural piece there who fills the hard running CHF role. In 2021 he kicked 20 goals from 16 games. You’d hope that his best is in front of him. He could legitimately be a 30 goal per year option. So that leaves Perkins and Menzie. Perkins has been practically a goal a game playing a bunch of roles across the early part of his career, and has had multiple 3 goal games. I think he can be pretty potent. And Menzie has played one full season and is better than a goal a game.

This is ignoring guys like Davey Wanganeen etc.

We can build a forward line with guys who are dangerous. What we’re lacking there is express pace. Gresham doesn’t change that.

Trade radio still talking about Goldstein to Pies - even though the Pies were fine with their rucks on GF day.

Mentioned that Essendon are desperate for a ruck considering the long lay off of Draper.

You really should work on your autocorrect.
No I don’t over-rate our players, Menzie is a good young player who just had his first full season and is averaging 1.1 goals a game. That is good. If that isn’t good enough for you from a first year player then it is more a reflection of unrealistic expectations.

Gresham is a 8 season veteran and he has only averaged over 1 goal a game 1 time and that was back in 2017.

We need some pace on our forward line - every team needs one or two quick players. We have none. At the moment this would be our best setup if we got Gresham:

Perkins Stringer Gresham
Menzie Wright Langford

I believe each of them could hit the scoreboard (there is some good forward craft there) if we improved upfield, but unfortunately there is not enough pace to defend. I don’t mind picking up Gresham, but if we don’t find some pace up forward it is all futile.

Could we not just go in with Wright, Langford and Perkins and then build the forward line around another 3 smalls?

Throwing Jones or Stringer to that mix will just ensure the ball continues to ping out of our forward line

You could, for sure. I would like at least one more tall though.

(But conceptually it definitely could work. Especially if you choose to kick the ball on the ground into the forward line low and away from any intercept marking threats!)

Except if the goal was to attain a premiership with the saga players, neither would have met the strategic plan and Shiel was the better option.

Could argue Langford does play tall. He’s essentially the same frame as Mihocek and is great overhead

only if you want forward pressure!

i look forward to the opposition running the ball out of our forward line with ease as 2MP, Jones give chase and Stringer doesn’t even bother.

All the good clubs have it!

Calm down, I’m not interested in arguing our list position at the time.

I’m just using it as an example regarding the value of the draft.
