2023 trade talk (Part 3)

Agree. Tall forward and a zippy dedicated small forward.
The zippy small forward stays forward all day but has a quota of say 5 chase down tackles. Licensed to kick goals. Must meet tackle quota and goals help or the next player gets a run at the role.
As for the extra tall I wouldn’t mind Reid getting a run at it. Present and take most shots at goal. He’s a good kick. If he delivers he stays at least give him 3 4-5 week shots at it.
Of course I would like Voss to get a similar run to. It’s an ultimatum to take your chance and you’ll be given a fair shot. Add Hunter to.

Lycett if we cant get Goldstien

As I said when I went through this in the other thread, a lot of that is mindset. Stringer not chasing would definitely be a problem, but if he doesn’t chase he shouldn’t be playing. The whole forward line needs the mindset that you can’t give away easy defensive 50 rebounds

Also the mids need to push up and apply foward pressure they are cuplrits as well

Gresham is a good footballer that would be in our best 22.

the Shiel Gresham thing is interesting because they will effectively play the same role in the side.

Shiel - high half forward with small rotations onball - no goal sense and out of position

Gresham - high half forward with even smaller rotations on ball - good goal sense and played in correct natural position

The exchange, however it happens, is logical

Gresham looks like a prick too

Our mids do push forward. They just don’t do much when forward and struggle to push back

Was someone else in to Menzie?

The negative judgements on him are a bit unbalanced. For a young player operating in that forward line he showed plenty. Had a few off games, but generally hit the scoreboard and was prepared to work hard. Also, he’s surprisingly good in 1v1 marking contests which is an asset that we can develop.

Think he’s cooked

Then off to the state leagues to get a mature age ruck

You be nervous as a dogs fan hearing that sounds like he’s not 100% to be at the Dogs end of next year

St Kilda don’t want Gresham because his best is well behind him and they don’t rate him. Essendon don’t want Shiel because his foot is cooked and his best is well behind him if he manages to get on the field. Would rather trade Shiel for draft picks so we can try to recruit players we actually need to fill a role

applying pressure, be it forward or back or anywhere around the ground has to be a whole team thing

the players need to be switched on all the time to get to the opposition with the ball as soon as possible and reduce their time to dispose of it

trade/drafting is only as good as the training and coaching standards

Positive talks with us and Hunter. No contract offer atm but his manager seemed pretty happy with the situation.

The way I see it, taking on Gresham is the only way we’d be getting a decent pick out of any Shiel-related deal.

Assume it won’t take much negotiating, we like him and he’s shown something, on to bigger deals

But Gresham does fill a role

Even praised our injury management!
