2023 trade talk (Part 3)

Just delist or trade all the list cloggers who have reached their ceilings. Even more so if they don’t have the personality, traits and work ethic required to change the club culture. I’d much rather use list spots to take a chance on unknown quantities if they possess those traits, even if it makes us less competitive in the short term. We’re going nowhere with the current list and culture anyway. So at least get the right people into the club in the short term to start changing standards, while we work on acquiring top end talent to get us more competitive over the longer term.

Hence the drafting of Hunter. While 2 tall KPF is the accepted wisdom, the Pies have just won a flag with Mihocek as their tallest forward. Brodie has held that distinction for a few years now. It is apparent that the Pies don’t rate tall forwards all that highly. They have managed to get by with solid contributions from Crisp who is a utility of sorts and Elliott who is small but plays tall.

Yep. Whole team needs to buy in and call out those that don’t!

We dont have many list cloggers left we have turned over a fair bit of the list the last few years

So you think the list is complete??

No i say its about 75-80% complete right now

When the team plays poorly the whole list looks cooked and clogged - our post-bye form case in point

when we’re winning and doing ok, we see upsides with the list - as shown by our our pre-bye form

the latter suggests we can be good, but the former says we are well off being consistent and truly competitive by finals time

Fark, that’s depressing.

If you’re a top 6 team those players are called depth.
If your bottom 10 those players are referred to as list cloggers.

Example at Melbourne - Harmes, Dunstan, Schache are depth at Melbourne. If they played at Essendon they are list cloggers

I can’t see Gresham without thinking of this scene.

We’re gonna hold onto this crap for the next 5 years.

Who knows how we will be in 5 years. we could be crap or we could be good

We’ll be ■■■■. And still saying “Remember when we were 5th before the bye that year.”

If all our kids come on and turn into guns, probably only a key forward away… But this is fantasy thinking reality is we are further away than that.

We are a club with, charitably, one star on the list. I don’t understand why so many people are focused on making sure we’ve got structure and role players and missing pieces for when we play in a prelim. It’s like a caveman looking up at the moon and thinking “first order of business, we need to pick a colour for the space suits”.

that's as good as it gets

We weren’t that good pre-bye. We were very lucky in some games where teams kicked inaccurately and we had 1 decent quarter which was enough. Our ladder position hid many problems, which caught up with us eventually.

Don’t bother Nino, that guy cheers on our losses. He is just another DKP.
