#21 Dyson "Go jam it” Heppell - goes alright

He’s going around again, no doubt about it, just hope we don’t lose any young talent because of it.

He’s a good bloke you don’t want him to go on a year too long and then bow out ugly.
I’d rather him leave with a little bit in the tank then cop abuse for poor preformance and not being dropped as we supposedly owe a debt to him

Who exactly would we lose by Heppell staying?

Nobody in the VFL is banging down the door for his spot at the moment.

Even if someone is banging down the door, Scott will still play Hep over them

Maybe we need to take a door to the next vfl game and see if anyone bangs on it.

Could easily shuffle the chess pieces around involving Laverde, Baldwin, Cox, Redman etc.

Archie Roberts sort of is (though he had a quiet game last week I think I read?).

But right now … Hep is holding up back there.

I want someone to be banging the door down. We can’t be hoping Heppell just maintains his current standard for another 6-18 months. Odds are, he’s going to drop off at some point.

But there has not been a single half back in the VFL who has demanded selection over Heppell yet. Roberts is probably the most likely candidate we’ve had, so hopefully he does.

I’ve found kicking a door in is more effective.

I’ve seen kicking in our VFL team. They are best to try bang it down.

True.

Roberts, Wanganeen, Menzie and Lual if he cleans up his disposal, I also wouldn’t mind seeing Perkins trialled in Hepps position at some point.

Al Hawli’s flexibility will be hard to ignore.

Roberts is an 18 year old kid in his first season, Hep playing on doesn’t hold him back
Wanganeen is a perpetually injured player still yet to find his way and play consistently, Hep is not holding him back
Menzie is a small forward and in no way should be used in Heps role imo
Lual is 19 and is still very raw, Hep is not holding him back
Perkins is earmarked as a mid and is being trained as one, in the SENIOR side, Hep is not holding him back

That is hardly a list of young kids being held back by Hep playing or going around another season.

they would be given opportunities if hepp wasnt there.

hepp is just plodding along.

its about time to try something different.

No one’s banging the door down but doesn’t mean these guys would do just as good and maybe even better than Hepp in his current position.

I love seeing Heppell enjoying his footy as much as anyone but we have got to get better than what we are and the position he plays is arguably the easiest position to play on the field.

That is very much underselling how well Hep is playing and I completely disagree.

He’s had all the abuse that anyone could have imagined in this thread, and a few others

He’s been great, no doubt about it, reckon that some of the younger guys could make a fist of that position as well.
