That’s true. However, as we know they are trying to sell off pick 5 for 2 lower first round picks then give us one. With this in mind there are 4 possibilities as I see it:
- Saints are successful in getting 2 lower picks for pick 5 then give us 1. Potentially with a 3rd round thrown in as well.
- Saints incorporate a player with worse pick. I’d doubt we’d go for that.
- They use a pick from next year. This could be their first pick from next year if they deem that to be of lower value to pick 5 this year.
- We get pick pick 5 possibly with some exchange of other picks e.g. we get pick 5 and give our 3rd pick up. I’d doubt we’d give one of our second rounds (assuming we get one for Melksham).
I don’t think the Saints would move up much from their ladder position next year hence I’d be ok with next years first round pick although I know others disagree here.
