Could Saints next years first pick be on the table? Saints will bank on improvement and thus may believe they won’t be giving as high a pick as 5, and Essendon will probably be confident that Stk also won’t finish too high (and could still potentially finish low again). Bit of a gamble by both clubs, but it might get things done.
People are naive if they think Carlton will do a deal for Carlisle.Straight to the PSD, and why wouldn’t they?
'Cos Jake said, we will take their second, screwed again but time to just move on.
He could in theory also put a put a price on his head and go past Carlton in the PSD.
Our leverage is not as solid as people think
If it next years first round pick at least we all have someone to cheer on for the spoon!
Wouldn’t that be amusing, give up next years first round and end up with pick 1 which they then have to hand over instead of giving over pick 5 this year.

Channel 7 just said Carlton interest cooling looking likely will nominate saints before the end of the week, Also said we'd be happy with next year first rounder.I know we all tend to want instant gratification but their first round pick next year would be fair enough in what is considered by people who know a better draft pool. I expect us to finish 13th-16th next year (pick 3-6) unless the glaring holes on our list somehow get addressed in the next month or so. Saints I think can push up towards 11th-15th (pick 4-8). Something around that mark would be pretty handy in next years draft to go with our pick 5 and low 20's pick this year.

They won’t give us this year’s first round pick, they’ll take a player off us then give us the first round pick they get after he boosts them up the ladder. Cool cool.
Finnis (St Kilda) CEO said it would be "premature" to include pick 5 in a deal for Carlisle. Here we go again. Edit: on SEN
I’m surprised any bomber players would actually want to play under him after the way he looked after them as the AFLPA president.
For pick 5 I think Little would fly him to Seaford and back in his jet for training. We can do a hell of a lot of good with picks 4&5. Add Bennell in there if possible and it would be a massive win for the future.

Finnis can go and EAD.
Along with Terry Wallet. Pick 20 hahaha

Worsfold has a sack though, he’ll be telling our crew, to tell St Kilda to eat it.

I will personally drive Carlisle to a from Seaford if that means we get pick 5 in this years team. I don't want to have any social chats to the fark strictly business.
Make sure you drive via Moorabbin so Habib can say hello.
I would much prefer 4, 9 & 23 than 4 & 5. It's a good draft pick for a FOUR pick downgrade. We'll likely only get one of Parish/Francis anyway. Pick 9 probably gives us a options out of Curnow, McKay, Weiderman or Collins. Top mid, good tall, 2 2nd round picks. Can fix a lot of areas in the side. But 9 for Carlisle is low. I’d ask for the Adelaide steak knives (Lyons?) or Saints 3rd rounder (2015 or 2016, 2016 preferred).
Last 5 years side by side comparison
2014 - Too early to assess
2013
4 & 5 = Bontempelli, Koldashnji
4,9,23 = Bont, Salem, M Crouch
2012
4&5 = Toumpas, Stringer
4,9,23 = Toumpas, Vlauston, Paparone
2011
4&5 = Hoskin-Elliott, Buntine
4,9,23 = Hoskin-Elliott, Tomlinson, M Newman
2010
4&5 = Gaff, Polec
4,9,23 = Gaff, Prestia, Guthrie
2009
4&5 = Morabito, Cunnington
4,9,23 = Morabito, A Moore, K Stevens
Winner (my opinion) in bold.
Much of a muchness with 4&5 just in front.
According to 5AA, STK have offered #5 to the Crows for #9 and #28. #9 goes to us for Carlisle.Assuming that either #28 or STK 2nd pick goes for Freeman, it opens an interesting question. Surely we could throw in pick 23 instead of involving Crows. So two options:
Pick 4 and 5 (plus melksham pick)
Or
Pick 4, 9 and 23.( plus melksham pick)
It seems counterintuitive, but in an even and shallow draft it may not be the best thing to run with the two pick version. If you think you can get the player you want at #9, and you think an even crop will present several candidates in the early 20’s, then a club starved of draft picks might prefer the 3 pick pathway.
Considering one of Parish or Francis is guaranteed if we want them at #4. Look for a tall (supposedly there are good talls for the 1st round) or 2nd mid at our 2nd pick and then see what falls through to 23 and 25. If the talent dries up at 30, four prior to 25 is a good haul.
Sal you may be onto something there.
With tue turn over of players looking upwards of 7 or 8 we may actually need the picks to fill out the list.
I don’t think player turnover will be that high.
At this stage we have:
Definate Outs (3)
Chapman
Winders
Fletcher
Likely Outs (3)
Melksham
Carlisle
EKav
Definate Ins (1)
Smack
Probable Stay (3)
Stanton
Dempsey
Pears
Probable Ins (1)
Luenberger
So you have 6 likely Out, 2 likely in. That leaves us with 4 list spots available. If we can get 4+5+23+25/29 then that would be perfect. Then they will need to assess if Dempsey is worth a 3rd round pick and Pears the same. I would suggest that both those players would be worth more than a 3rd rounder in this draft.
Bringing in 4 young players in the the first 25 picks will absolutely set us up for a strong rebuild and why we need to keep hold of that Melksham pick.
With it looking likely we will need to use at least 4 picks… then it just becomes whether you prefer:
4,5, 25,41
or
4,9,23,25
Personally I like option B.
Keeping 4 and receiving 5 must be non negotiable. It should only be the “add on” to Saints that should be negotiated. Shut the door on your way out!

I’d be ok with that #9 and a Lyons or Ellis-Yolman steak knives.

Pick 5 & 42 for Carlisle & pick 23...... Seem fair? Peoples expectations on here are very high and I'd be happy with this.If not then what…; next years first round pick plus pick 42 for Carlisle…?
I would take either one of those options. That is about the best we’ll do
