#5 - Elijah Tsatas (Part 3: status TBC)

No doubt is was strategically disruptive and cheeky

Would’ve been interesting to see if he attended more if not for being injured and whether Solly has plans to do it regularly

or if Cox does that instead. Cuz we know he’s decent at it.

I didn’t mind that. Caddy was quiet last week, so putting him into the guts to get an early touch was a smart move. Sure it didn’t end well, but I didn’t mind it.

Who knows, hopefully he tries a few left field moves against Mitch’s mob. The match ups on Sis, Fizz, Duke and Daybreak should be interesting.

your bias on caldwell and tsatas is fascinating, he did a great job on the weekend shutting down oliver (the leading clearance player in the afl) just acknowledge that just a bit….

I highly doubt that your boy tsatas could do anything that good.

Don’t make it weird. Caldwell’s been very down for a long time and hasn’t fulfilled his promise yet at all, it took a team wide effort led by Durham to get over the line and may it continue sans Parish and Setterfield as much as they’ve been decent servants. The argument that there’s been no room for a different high clearance player in the seniors is total bullshit. I hope Tsatas gets a chance to compete for a spot going forward and we can properly see whether he belongs in the youth brigade. Our depth is pathetic, who are we kidding?

He did do a good job, but has he done a good job this year or has he been carried and gifted games when he should have been dropped? Let’s test who’s really biased here.

Pretty sure the smart play with Tsatas is to tell him he will stay in the 2’s for the balance of the year in preparation for Parish, Merrett and Setterfield all going. Tell him his opportunity will come in 2027 and give him a contract extension until the end of 28.

2027 Midfield Depth

Starting Mid (CBA)

Durham, Caldwell, Sharp

Depth Mid (CBA)

Robey, Tstatas, Martin

Other CBA options - Kako, McGrath, Day-Wicks

I’m not going to defend Caldwell because he has been terrible this year. But clearances alone is not reason enough to give Tsatas a game. Let’s look at last week, we dominated clearance, yet only won because Jake Stringer missed 7 shots at goal.

The issue Essendon has is not clearance, it’s what we do with the ball following that clearance. Tsatas does not help with this in any way. Tsatas has quick hands, but the doesn’t create with those hands. He simply handballs to the first person he sees, regardless of whether that player is under immediate pressure. Tsatas plays like Parish, both find a lot of the ball, but neither really impact the contest.

I know fans get mesmerised by stats, but the eye test simply doesn’t paint the same picture. There is a reason that no team showed any interest in Tsatas last year.

How about putting some heat on the guys Tsatas handballs to? It can’t be ALL his fault that nothing comes of the “effective” disposals he gets. Our disposal when attacking has been abysmal for a long time, and that’s not just a Tsatas issue, given the fact that we’ve lost so many games when he hasn’t even been playing.

I would push back on the fact that he just does panic handballs to others too. He has put other players in good position, but due to their lack of skill they botch it up.

Obviously, if Tsatas wants a future in the AFL he will need to fix his own skills up, in particular his kicking, but I think he is well underway in that.

Well, there’s a reason that he’s not getting selected by 2 coaches now.

I know people want pick 5 to be good, but just like many other Dodoro high draft picks, he’s a bust and will be playing VFL somewhere else next year.

He may get selected by someone else, but it won’t be long before he is back at VFL level. His skillset is made for the VFL.

Yep, I don’t think he’ll have a long career.

May somehow scrape away and get to 100 games, though it won’t be with us.

That last game i saw against the Dees probably sealed it for me.

That’s not how it works in footy.

Caddy plays out the game and Essendon win by 5 goals.

I’d rather get Steele equivalent for 2 years or keep Setterfield.

Dude, he hasn’t been able to get a game in a side that has won 3 games in over 12 months and you think we will offer him a contract?

Or Greene who had already kicked 2 goals plays out the game and we lose by 5 goals.

Is for him to take a offer to go elsewhere

How many games had Jobe played by the time he was 21?

Sheedy played him a lot when he wasn’t fit enough in the early years

Tsatas has never been given that luxury

I haven’t had that luxury either…you know why? It’s because I’m no good at playing footy.
