It really looked that way. Even the one early season loss, Anzac Day by a point, was very respectable.
Same here. The first half of 2012 was probably the most excited I’ve been as a Bomber fan since the glory years.
The depressing thing is that there are a further 21 losses rated worse than this one.
This alone means it should be a lot higher, if not top 3

AKA “The Xavier Campbell apology retraction game”. Essendon players reportedly complained to Xavier Campbell after he publicly described the loss as “Not good enough. Not even close. Fans deserve so much better. 41,000 came out today and we let you down.”.
-
Essendon led 75-48 at the 5 minute mark of the 4th QTR.
-
Brisbane would eventually finish 18th while Essendon finished 7th.

Wow, I do not remember holding this lead. An even bigger indictment.
I knew walking out of the ground that day we’d come out and thump Collingwood the next week. Which we did.
But aside from that, not many positives to this game.

AKA “The game where Mark McVeigh gave a “remember this feeling” speech to the players before they left the field”.

Jason Johnson and Adam Ramanauskas’s farewell games. Both were in the top 3 disposal winners for Essendon on the day.

John Williams’s only AFL game.

Rhys Magin’s last of 4 games.

John Williams?
Rhys Magin?
You made these names up, didn’t you!
Is this the one that the saints had to win by a certain amount to be top 4 and we just let them do it?
The holding the ball decision against McKenna was a joke. He bounced the ball, the Lions player barely laid a finger on him and he gets pinged. Didn’t even tackle him
Saints needed to win big to make top 4.
We barely had 22 fit players (dont even think they were fit either, McVeigh was clearly injured)
Yeah, they had to win by over 100 points and they got there by a kick.
It is indeed.
I remember being corrected by many rulebook experts that day. Apparently it’s correct but the rule needs changing if that’s the case.
… that’s the only time in history that particular interpretation of the rule has ever been enforced.
Jumping John Williams had quite a leap on him.
imo his contribution to star wars is what made it as popular as it is today
“We can barely field a team. Is there anybody we can get last minute?”
“I have a mate who is a 76 year old music composer? He’s got a great leap on him, too.”
“Done. Get him in.”
wasn’t really able to give us his best one-out in the forward line
if we spielberg at chf then they’d have kicked 140 between them
