But, um, injury and improved numbers end up amounting to nothing if he remains a spectator.
I’m actually surprised how little I care about this. Not saying that means a lot about the player Joe could, might, or might never be. I love him. But he’s got about the most potential at the same time as he’s got the least mental capacity to make the most of it I’ve seen for a long time.
2 years ago and barely played since and now wants to be elsewhere.
Any first rounder is a bonus.
Horrible thing to say and not the time to say it but here goes.
Forget the name. Joe ain’t Terry or Neil or Chris. (But he may be Tony).
Doesn’t matter, he’s gone and I’m glad he’s declared his intentions. Too much nostalgia in this club and I should know because I bore my kids with it all the time. Time we got real.
Let’s do a deal Sydney
I’m not sure what we are arguing about.
Scorpio said he wasn’t a star and we over rated him based on 1 season.
It’s clearly an incorrect comment.
His numbers were right up there with Buddy and Ben Brown in 2017, his best season as a developing KP forward at age 23, after 2 previous seasons when he improved.
The injury since has nothing to do with where he was in 2017, and where he was going (at that time).
He was not over rated.
We shouldn’t buckle from our demands , whatever they end up being.
Swans put up or can wait for Joe.
Joe plays with us or sits out if no deal reached. His call…
I’d be very disappointed if we do anything other than get the deal we want or make joe play out his contract.
There is a potentially interesting points trade landscape involved here…
We could possibly trade picks 31 and 37 (worth 1089 points) to GWS for pick 18 (worth 985 points).
They would have to use their picks 12 and 18 anyway to move up and take their academy kid Tom Green who is expected to be bid on at 3 or 4. Moves us up the order and get us into the first round.
However…
Interestingly. The only other team who could challenge or compete with that trade (IMO) would be our friends Sydney, who have picks 25 and 42 (worth 1151 points). That could possibly be their way to get another R1 pick (albeit a late R1 pick) to trade for JD along with their pick 5.
If i were in the clubs shoes, i’d speak to joe, get him to see out his contract, offer him time away during the season when he needed it, get him to fully recover without any pressure to return to play.
After that season, if he does a Francis and has a change of heart, decides to stay? then great. If not?
… i would be looking at packaging him up to trade to GWS to snare Jeremy Cameron depending on how Joes season rated.
Perhaps it’s just the usual Blitzsemantics: He was correctly rated at 23. RIght now, who knows?
I do know that both Buddy and Brown were much smarter footballers at his age, though Joe has as much potential as Buddy. I think Joe still plays like he’s in the TAC cup, or to be honest, stuffing around in a country league game much of the time. All remains to be seen now in any case.
He’s got his reasons. We’ve got our theories. History will let us know. With his injuries and the recent EFC history, I can’t really blame him for wanting to try something new. I also think that with a different attitude he probably wouldn’t need to be considering such a move in the first place. Catch 22 situation.
I think getting #5 and next year’s 1st is more valuable than 5 & 9. There isn’t much left to trade for at this stage, may as well be armed with two first rounders next year if we need to throw the kitchen sink at a player.
I am sure that we’re talking to players at the moment, but big names (ones that warrant two first round picks) are worked generally worked on for a while. Not out of desperation once the trade period begins.
But if they came at us with 5 and 18, peddling “2 x R1 picks”, I could see the club agreeing. TBH this is about equal to what we gave for Shiel (pick 9 in ‘18 and 12 in ‘19)
