#6 Joe Daniher - wants out of Tulla on the full

And he will if the club deems him to be required. That is probably the likely outcome here.

But wait if we hold steady on 5+9 but the swans won’t release papley seems like it’ll be a hard deal to do? Potentially get 5+ a player?

This does not usually happen. But unless they are going to get the first two picks I hope it does.

Jackets now drinking green tea.

Or 5 and next years 1st with some second round pick swaps to provide fairy dust points that the Swans need for academy kids.

I don’t think it’s really an indictment on the club. Everyone needs to settle down. If there’s a big stench, not sure you can explain a lot of the resignings, notably parish (who is on the verge of becoming an absolute weapon) and tippa.

We have resigned most of our young players. The fact that Francis has resigned despite wanting to go home a while back, having been open with some mental health problems, is indicative of a good environment.

Joe is a giant, one of the most recognisable players in the game, and a pretty shy guy. he is not a typical footballer by any stretch. When discussing the first round of rumours, he said people were shouting from cars at him. I can appreciate just wanting to go down to the shops and go about your life without people trying to constantly get in your grill, particularly when you’re 25.

In truth, denying the rumours and the tom harley stuff is not a great look for Joe, but it is what it is.

It’s painful to lose him, but if you break it down it makes a lot of sense for someone like Joe. It’s life. We made finals without him, and we can do it again.

I’d be hesitant about next year’s first as it could blow out, could also be really good haha

Like to think thats being sarcastic. I wouldn’t wish a career ending injury on any sportsmen.

NO, he can go to the draft and we lose him for nothing.

How many times does this have to be mentioned…

So Joey goes to the draft wanting $1.5 million a year for the next 5 years, hoping that the Swans will be the first Team who will pay up.

Never going to happen, unless Swans win the Wooden Spoon next year.

That’s what they said about Luke Ball…

Swans finished near the bottom this year might lose Papley and have lost some of their most senior players. Every chance they finish very very low.

Despite saying we should hold these guys to their contracts, I’m now pondering if I want Hooksey - who may or may not be cooked as a player but is probably the most outrageously loyal clubman we’ve had - having to share a locker room with a supposed “leader” who has been shopping for a way out of a contract with at least a year to go?

I’m not sure I do. But I don’t know how the playing group view all this. I’d hope they’d be fuming, but there may (likely) be factors I have no knowledge of.

I dont have a problem with him going if he’s out of contract. It’s the breaking contract that I have issue with.

According to Merrett, he has their full support. Something that really annoys me

We all know contracts don’t mean too much now. Player power has never been higher, that’s why you see so many want out despite being contracted. It’s time clubs were given more power to trade players without them vetoing it, but that’s a separate argument for another time. If this happens, Joe is not the first and certainly won’t be the last player to ask for a move whilst in contract…

Yep not going to happen. A deal would be done prior to the draft. Joe’s value could also fluctuate one way or the other if he stays with us. But if the numbers being thrown around are correct Joe would want the deal done this year.

I’m not convinced that his catch up with Harley was a mere friendly catch up. It might be convenient to take that position because the club that he’d like to be traded to happens to be the club that Harley leads. In that respect, he should have been upfront from the beginning, or not made misleading statements. He was fairly unequivocal.

Contracts are almost like insurance, protecting the club from being swindled at the trade table, that’s it. They mean little in terms of retaining players. Another question to ask is how much salary cap does this now free up? Are we back in the running for Jack Martin? Or another few players? With loss comes opportunity and we have a chance to re-imagine the club in different ways. Less reliance on injured and pragmatic stars, more consistency and a better culture where rules apply for some and not others. If you don’t want to be at the club then there’s the door, we still have a promising list for the most part, we just need better structures, game-plans and culture.

end of the day, for most, it’s a business and just about doing what’s best for their career

You would have to think it free’s up at least 700-800k. Which is enough to grab a very good player
