I have been thinking about that. How does this sound?

3 on the main leadership group:
Captain
Vice Captain: someone who can step in and be captain, so basically ready to go but also still learning a little bit from the existing captain
Deputy vice captain: a player who long term you see as a possible captain, they are young still though and it is a chance for them to learn the ropes

Under that you then have a sub-leadership group. It consist only of 3 players:
leader of the forwards
leader of the mids
leader of the backline

This then comprises the leadership group when it needs to convene if there are issues that need to be brought forward (discipline, playing poorly, etc). Personally I think just the 3 but clubs don’t do that often these days.

Need to target Jeremy Cameron big time now. Throw all the cash we might get from letting Daniher and possibly Fantasia go. Front load the contract to entice him, tell GWS they won’t get better offers next year from anyone. Use the Daniher picks to get Cameron, combine the cash from letting both go to sway Cameron. Pocket whatever picks leftover from letting Fantasia go, possibly add in SPP or Howard in the side. Let’s bring in some players that get on the park and actually perform and not only perform in magic fairy land in our hopes and dreams or our fantasy best 22 sides. Hawthorn lost Franklin and won multiple premierships afterwards. Adelaide lost Tippett and got better afterwards. Sometimes tall huge forwards actually make the midfield lazy and just bomb it to them. We’ve tried and failed with this list, time to turn it over a bit. We’re all too used to having easy pre-seasons, now lets have some hard work for a change.

Despite saying we should hold these guys to their contracts, I’m now pondering if I want Hooksey - who may or may not be cooked as a player but is probably the most outrageously loyal clubman we’ve had - having to share a locker room with a supposed “leader” who has been shopping for a way out of a contract with at least a year to go?

I’m not sure I do. But I don’t know how the playing group view all this. I’d hope they’d be fuming, but there may (likely) be factors I have no knowledge of.

I really doubt they’d be fuming because this is their world. It happens all the time. They’ll wish him the best.

But is does go towards why we won’t hold on to him for another year in hope of a better deal or changing his mind. He’s announced that he wants out and has nominated a club. Personally, I don’t want us to spend anytime having to re-settle him back into the club cause we didn’t do a deal only for it to happen in 12 mths.

We don’t have to beat our chest to be a strong club. We can get a solid deal, 5 and early second, and quickly move on. Joe doesn’t want in, no problem, see ya Joe, we’re moving on with the boys that want to be here.
