#8 Jason Winderlich

Staggered he went back to play footy at any level, vivid memories of him in a video about his recovery work between games while playing with us as him mentioning some days he could barely walk.

“Walk again” seems a fair way short of full recovery, although it’s a lot better than it could have been.

One of my all-time favourite EFC players, what an incredible talent he was.

It seems to weird to think about what he’s facing now. I remember what he was like before the back and hamstring injuries, and he was liked greased lightning. He just had pace to burn.

I really hope he recovers as well and as quickly as possible, it’s high time he had a bit of luck on the injury front.

Best not to make assumptions about Builders. Big and small going bust at the rate of 7 or 8 a day for the last year, Australia wide.

Trump is worth Billions but barely owns anything.

I associate myself with Winders, because I too would never lean down to tie my shoelaces as that is an inevitable* back injury.

Croc-of-a-champ good enough for ya?

Being a rich person doesn’t always equate to having a lot of money. I know that sounds weird but often the wealth is on paper rather than available cash reserves.

You also have no idea what he has actually given other than what shows on the go fund me. What he has done privately may be far more than that.

Look 2 posts up IT. I said that Welsh likely donated more privately.

There’s a public contribution amount that signifies a GoFundMe is serious, and a starting contribution that says “this is done, you don’t need to help out as well”.

“Again” also reads like he can’t walk atm.
Suspect Winders will be in rehab for some months unfortunately.
I know Caulfield has public patients so hopefully that absorbs some of his personal costs.

A big who’s who of essendon players if you filter by top donors

Ch7 news showed footage of him in a neck brace, moon boot, knee brace (I think) taking a few steps between support rails. Looked to be current footage.

Andrew Welsh was interviewed and said they were hoping to raise enough money to allow him to rehab at home with the appropriate support and, in Winderlich’s own words, not take up a hospital bed that someone else needs.

Sounds so much more promising than originally reported.

If someone can find the footage I can confirm but I’d imagine there were orthoses rather than your traditional moon boot or brace you’d see with an ankle/knee injury

Oh phew, that’s sounding much less bad than it could have been.

Spinal injuries are terrifying to hear about but can be recoverable if they’re not too immediately severe. I know a couple of people who’ve broken their necks and made near-full recoveries. You always fear the worst anyway.

they just played the footage on the half time news bulletin, looked more like these

Fark, how did I not hear about this before tonight.
Glad he’s ok (relatively speaking).

Looks to be an AFO he has on, indicating he has lost (hopefully temporarily) at least some motor control in that foot. So there has definitely some degree of cord injury (hopefully all reversable).
