#9 Dylan Shiel (Part 1)

Now all we need if for Smith and Shiel to tell Kelly and Coniglio how awesome it is at Essendon and they’ll turn their backs on Norf’s WARCHEST and sign for peanuts next year.

You’re right about that. Aside his individual ability and class, he further spreads the load on the midfield allowing others to flourish. Will have a big impact on Parish also I reckon.

We’re gonna bat pretty deep through the mids next year… Hep, Merrett, Shiel, Smith, Langford, Myers, Parish, Zaka, McGrath, with Stringer, Fantasia and Walla in short bursts.

Except we didn’t trade a star who would go close to winning a normy

I watched enough VFL this year to know. He can play, certainly worthy of a rookie list spot on an AFL list. Losing Colyer it would be great to add some speed back into the mix…

SOS is a flog!

We play cricket?

Out of curiosity…
Is Shiel our best player? If not then who?

I’m talking right now, not potential

Heppell would be our best player currently.

Shiel, Zac, Hurley and Smith could all claim that mantle by the end of 2019

Hooker, Raz, Daniher

IMO Daniher and Fantasia aren’t top 5 right now.

They will. Not now.

Welcome

Excited and rapt we got Shiel, but I’m keeping my powder dry for 2019. I’m as positive as the next positive person, but given our 2018 start and the fact injuries can cruel you (a factor to our 2018 start), then I’m not taking success as a given. And the players should hopefully do the same. They should have learnt they can be a competitive footy side but they have to be fully committed to getting that sustained success. They can’t think Shiel is going to carry them to success. Hopefully his arrival will make them work a whole lot harder on fitness and skills and footy smarts. Shiel’s arrival should give them extra self-belief and confidence they can be extra competitive with the best sides next year. But it cannot lead to complacency and the feeling that yep that’s the missing piece we needed and we are good to go.

Bring on 2019. I want to see what we can do.

What a week but worth the somewhat torturous wait! Rapt to have Dylan on board. Bring on 2019!

IMO Merrett & Hooker are the 2 players who might be better than him.

Zach Merrett.

I forgot about Joe. Yes he could easily be our best player.

Raz is my favourite atm but I don’t think he is at the level of Hepp, Shiel
IMO Hooker is one level below Hurley.

100%

Zach is our best player.

Joe should be our best player

Raz could be our best player

Hooker is our most important player

Shiel is our player.

In 2017 our midfield was the worst in the comp on a number of measures. Folk underestimate the importance of Bellchos improvement to our midfields resurgence in 2018. IMO. So its vital that Tommy has a good year in 2019 as well.
If Shiel can develop a close understanding of our current stoppage setup early in 2019, we will be able to jump out of the blocks. It was probably 3 times harder to assimilate SSS into the team last year. However with only one new player coming into the midfield, instead of spending the preseason trying to teach stoppage craft to Jakey, Dylan Shiel might be teaching the rest of our mids a bit from day 1. Hopefully this will allow us to ratchet up our class in at stoppages, not to mention general midfield play.
